HIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Week 45, Third Round (ENG-ESP): "You Oughta Know" feat. @clairemobey! (Cover)

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Zone Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Welcome to Week 45 / Round 3 of the Hive Music Festival!

For the first 22 weeks of the Hive Music Festival I played entirely original songs that I had written in a variety of styles that suit the acoustic guitar like folk, blues, kwela and rock.

For the 20 weeks from week 23 to week 42, I challenged myself not to just play guitar and harmonica (my primary instruments), but to introduce a new wacky musical instrument every week. The instruments I tackled included the following:

Kazoo, Pennywhistle, Autoharp, Xylophone / glockenspiel, Valiha (bamboo zither), Ukelele, the piano sample sounds from the “Bongo Cat” Website, Random stuff I found in my kitchen, My toddler daughter’s baby-piano toy and rainstick, An antique wooden recorder, 25L Plastic Water drums, Wine bottle whistles, Exercise bands and rubber bands, The washboard, The handgun, A mini (tourist-souvenir) kora, The kalimba (The African Thumb Piano), The melodica, The comb (and baking paper) & Sewer pipe cut to different lengths!

Now it’s time for a new era of Hive Music Festival entries where I introduce my friend @clairemobey. Together we form the collaborative musical duo called “MobeyDick”, and this is how I usually perform in public these days, singing a mixture of the original songs that either one of us has written (or written/arranged together), as well as some covers. We have a couple of gigs coming up, so we would love to show you some of the covers we plan to do as we practice, as well as some of the original songs that @clairemobey has written!

Today we want to do a cover of somebody that both Claire and I grew up listening to and love – Alanis Morisette! If you listened to our Week 44 entry - Claire’s original song called “Demon’s Lurk” available here (https://ecency.com/hive-120026/@jasperdick/hnjvjlfx ) – she says that she was very inspired by Alanis Morisette, and today’s song in particular: “You Oughta Know”, when she wrote it as a heartbroken teenager!

There are some tricky bridges where Alanis nearly raps in her anger, and at the end of the song you can hear Claire’s joy at getting through the song! There’s something about the song’s rhythm and scope for me to play the chords in different places on the guitar’s neck that led to some pretty funny expressions on my face as well! I think we both really loved doing this and that with a few tweaks it should be a regular song in our sets!

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la comunidad de Music Zone. ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! ¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 45 / Ronda 3 del Hive Music Festival!

Durante las primeras 22 semanas del Hive Music Festival, toqué canciones completamente originales que había escrito en una variedad de estilos que se adaptan a la guitarra acústica como folk, blues, kwela y rock.

Juntos formamos el dúo musical colaborativo llamado “MobeyDick”, y así es como suelo actuar en público estos días, cantando una mezcla de las canciones originales que cualquiera de nosotros ha escrito (o escrito/arreglado juntos), así como algunas cubre Tenemos un par de conciertos por venir, así que nos encantaría mostrarte algunas de las versiones que planeamos hacer mientras practicamos, ¡así como algunas de las canciones originales que @clairemobey ha escrito!
