HIVE OPEN MIC #156 (ENG/ESP)"Hasta El Extremo": "I Will Follow You into the Dark" by Death Cab

Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Welcome to Week 156 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge. The theme for the week is “Hasta El Extremo”! An English translation wasn’t given, and Google Translate seemed to fluctuate between “To The End”, “To The Extreme” or possibly even “Until Eternity”?

I decided to try and find a song that would work for all three English translations above. Death Cab for Cutie released a fabulous album in 2005 called “Plans”, which for me is one of those great albums where every song is good (or better!) and flows nicely from one song into the next. There does seem to be a recurring, nearly morbid, fascination with death. The most appropriate song for a solo acoustic guitar cover is the beautiful “I Will Follow You into the Dark”, which talks of a love so great, that the singer is sure he will follow the lover into whatever happens after death – which is a perfect fit to the theme of “Hasta El Extremo” to me!

¡Hola a todos en Hive y especialmente a la comunidad Hive Open Mic! ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! Bienvenidos a la semana 156 del Hive Open Mic Challenge. ¡El tema de la semana es “Hasta El Extremo”! No se proporcionó una traducción al inglés, y Google Translate parecía fluctuar entre "Hasta el final", "Hasta el extremo" o posiblemente incluso "Hasta la eternidad".

Decidí intentar encontrar una canción que funcionara para las tres traducciones al inglés anteriores. Death Cab for Cutie lanzó un álbum fabuloso en 2005 llamado “Plans”, que para mí es uno de esos grandes álbumes en los que cada canción es buena (¡o mejor!) y fluye muy bien de una canción a la siguiente. Parece haber una fascinación recurrente, casi morbosa, por la muerte. La canción más apropiada para una versión de guitarra acústica solista es la hermosa “I Will Follow You into the Dark”, que habla de un amor tan grande, que el cantante está seguro de que seguirá al amante en lo que sea que suceda después de la muerte, que es un encaja perfectamente con el tema de “Hasta El Extremo” para mí!
