Greetings, community, in this 56th week of Hive Music Festival in its second round, I want to share with you a song that has a very special and little-known story.


This is the song "Luna de Margarita" by the remembered Venezuelan composer Simón Díaz "El Tío Simón", an icon of the folk music of our country, known outside our borders for his song "Caballo Viejo", a song covered by artists of the stature of Ray Coniff, Celia Cruz, among others.


Simón Díaz, a native of Barbacoas, a tiny town in the Guárico State, was of very humble origins. Before fame hit him, he was living on the island of Margarita with his wife Belkis, amidst severe economic hardships. The day of his partner's birthday arrived and his meager income did not allow him to give her a gift, not even a small one. At night they sat close together to listen to the sound of the waves of the Caribbean Sea or Sea of ​​the Antilles, which is the one that kisses the Venezuelan coasts with its waves.


Suddenly inspiration came to Simón and taking his Cuatro, accompanied by a sweet melody that came from his grateful heart, he gave him through his verses the moon of Margarita and the Sea of ​​the Antilles. This is how "Luna de Margarita" was born, the song I play for you today.

Saludos, comunidad, en esta semana 56 de Hive Music Festival en su segunda ronda deseo compartir con ustedes una canción que tiene una historia muy especial y poco conocida.


Se trata de la canción "Luna de Margarita" del recordado compositor venezolano Simón Díaz "El Tío S imón", un icono de la música folclórica de nuestro país, conocido fuera de nuestras fronteras por su canción "Caballo Viejo", canción versionada por artistas de la talla de Ray Coniff, Celia Cruz, entre otros.


Simón Díaz, natural de Barbacoas, un minúsculo pueblo del Estado Guárico era de origen muy humilde. Antes que le tocara la fama, estaba viviendo en la isla de Margarita con su esposa Belkis , entre fuertes estrecheces económicas. Llegó el día del cumpleaños de su compañera y sus exiguos ingresos no le permitieron hacerle un regalo, ni siquiera uno pequeño. En la noche se sentaron muy juntos a escuchar el rumor de las olas del Mar Caribe o Mar de Las Antillas que es el que besa con sus olas las costas venezolanas.


De pronto a Simón le vino la inspiración y tomando su Cuatro, acompañado de dulce melodía que le salía del corazón agradecido le regaló mediante sus versos la luna de Margarita y el Mar de Las Antillas. Así nació "Luna de Margarita" la canción que hoy toco para ustedes.
