One of the musical genres that I am passionate about is Jazz, it enjoys freedom in the diversity of rhythms and sounds. What strikes me about jazz is its complexity, and its autonomy to improvise with different sounds and phrases that make it unique. The confrontation, the fusion of rhythms, and the diversity of subgenres make it attractive. It is a genre in decline that refuses to disappear. The elite of musicians, fans, and music lovers support it. This has influenced current commercial music, and another aspect that keeps it alive is that it doesn't have a straitjacket to merge with other cultures and rhythms.
I remember when I started to study piano, they gave me sheet music for a song that I had never heard. It was hard for me to play it because of the complexity of its chords. As I was studying musical language and learning concepts of harmony, this helped me to know how to interpret the piece. This theme is «Misty» composed by pianist Erroll Garner and with lyrics by Johnny Burke. It contains 32 bars and is a jazz standard that has inspired other musical themes such as Yesterday by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Misty would be its meaning in Spanish and denotes that something is dark, cloudy, and without clarity. Like when you go into a wooded area and at altitude, and you see the mist. In the context of the song, I think he feels foggy, from the nerves of being with that person he's in love with.
Look at me, I'm as helpless as a kitten up a tree
And I feel like I'm clinging to a cloud, I can't understand
I get misty, just holding your hand
Walk my way, and a thousand violins begin to play
Or it might be the sound of your hello, that music I hear
I get misty, the moment you're near
You can say that you're leading me on
But it's just what I want you to do
Don't you notice how hopelessly I'm lost
That's why I'm following you
On my own, would I wander through this wonderland alone
Never knowing my right foot from my left, my hat from my glove
I'm too misty, and too much in love
I'm too misty, and too much in love
