Simón Díaz was born and raised in the cattle-raising town of Barbacoas, in an environment of music and tradition of the plains. In 1940, after the death of his father -who had encouraged him to play cuatro and compose-, he moved with his mother and seven siblings to San Juan de los Morros; at the age of 15 he was already working in an orchestra and as a humorous actor. In 1949 he moved to Caracas, where he attended the Escuela Superior de Música. He soon ventured into radio, and by the mid-fifties his program El Llanero was known throughout the country. In those years he decided to rescue and compose tunes.
In 1961 he marries Betty García, who will be his inseparable companion. From 1963 he collaborated with composer Hugo Blanco. His career in television began with La Quinta de Simón, followed by the comedy program El Show de Joselo y Simón -together with his brother Joselo Díaz-; and the program that all Venezuela made his own during the 80's, Contesta por Tío Simón. And that's how he stayed, since then Venezuelans adopted him as Tío Simón. Venezuelan icon, loved and respected, Simón Díaz -our beloved Tío Simón- died in Caracas on February 19, 2014, at the age of 85.

    AQUEL/Simón Díaz

    That
    That black-footed colt
    With such a marbled mane
A few days ago he died
    Because
    The owner who rode him
    Who caressed him so much
    Some time ago she left
    That
    That singing turpial
And the marine tile yesterday both of them went away
    Because
    The hand of gentle cuddles
    The voice of fine manners
    Suddenly neglected them
    Because
    That beautiful dog
    That frolicked with you
    That gave you a December
    When we got engaged
    Yesterday I got him dead
On the side of the road
    Because
    Lord if you took her
    Eternally with you
If they went in her footsteps
    All her faithful friends
    Let me die too
    To have her with me
    That
    That divine stream
    Of crystalline streams
    Dry already with pain
    Because
    Because you have not returned
To refresh yourself at its side
    To play with its color
    That
    That burning rose bush
That you cared for with delirium
    All withered away
    Because
    That singing voice
    That refreshed your life
    Never ever came back
    Because
    That beautiful dog
    That played with you
    That gave you a December
    When we got engaged
    Yesterday I got him dead
On the side of the road
    Because
    Lord if you took her
    Eternally with you
If they went in her footsteps
    All her faithful friends
    Let me die too
    To have her with me.source

    Aquel
    Aquel potro patas negras
    De crines tan marmoleñas
    Hace unos días se murió
    Porque
    La dueña que lo montaba
    Que tanto lo acariciaba
    Hace tiempo se marchó
    Aquel
    Aquel turpial cantarino
    Aquel perro tan hermoso
    Que jugueteaba contigo
    Que te ragale un diciembre
    Cuando nos comprometimos
    Ayer lo conseguí muerto
    En la orilla del camino
    Porque
    Señor si te la llevaste
    Eternamente contigo
Si se fueron tras su huellas
    Todos sus fieles amigos
    Deja que yo tambien muera
    Para tenerla conmigo
    Aquel
    Aquel riachuelo divino
    De corrientes cristalinas
    Seco ya está de dolor
    Porque
    Porque tú no has regresado
    A refrescarte a su lado
    A jugar con su color
    Aquel
    Aquel rosal encendido
    Que cuidabas con delirio
    Todito se marchito
    Porque
    Aquella voz cantarina
    Que resfrescaba su vida
    Nunca jamás regreso
    Porque
    Aquel perro tan hermoso
    Que jugueteaba contigo
    Que te ragale un diciembre
    Cuando nos comprometimos
    Ayer lo conseguí muerto
    En la orilla del camino
    Porque
    Señor si te la llevaste
    Eternamente contigo
Si se fueron tras su huellas
    Todos sus fieles amigos
    Deja que yo tambien muera
    Para tenerla conmigo.fuente
