En este post solo quiero rendirle tributo a una de las mujeres más interesantes que el mundo ha tenido la dicha de conocer; una mujer que nació en el siglo XVII, un siglo nada feminista, pero ella tuvo la valentía de consagrar su vida al estudio, a la lectura y a la escritura. Una mujer que desde niña demostró su sensibilidad artística, su portentosa inteligencia, que la llevó a dominar muchas áreas del saber, como teología, astronomía, humanidades, filosofía o literatura. Una mujer que ante su sed insaciable de conocimiento sintió la necesidad de hallar un lugar para cultivar su espíritu, su intelecto y que lo encontró en un convento. Por eso a los 19 años se hizo monja y el convento se le convirtió en biblioteca, en punto de encuentro cultural. Esta mujer fue sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, la mexicana por la que cada 12 de noviembre se celebra en México el Día Nacional del libro.

En sor Juana Inés encontraremos una obra solida en pensamiento, una poesía que está por encima de cualquier escuela o corriente literaria, que aborda el tema amoroso con cierta naturalidad y con mucha mesura. Destaca también su lucha por la igualdad de las mujeres en la sociedad. Fue el ejemplo vivo de que la mujer está dotada con las mismas capacidades intelectuales que el hombre, por eso defendió el derecho a la igualdad de la mujer, a ser más que la esposa de fulano, que la mamá de los hijos de fulano, hecho que la convirtió en una voz, potente, no solo para las mujeres, para que vieran que sí se podía, especialmente para los hombres, para que vieran de lo que nos estábamos perdiendo al negarle a la mujer el desarrollo de su talento.

La intención de este post es generarles curiosidad para que se acerquen a la obra de sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, una mujer que se pierde de vista por sus capacidades intelectuales.

In this post I just want to pay tribute to one of the most interesting women that the world has had the joy of knowing; a woman who was born in the seventeenth century, a century that was not at all feminist, but she had the courage to devote her life to study, reading and writing. A woman who, since she was a child, demonstrated her artistic sensitivity, her portentous intelligence, which led her to master many areas of knowledge, such as theology, astronomy, humanities, philosophy and literature. A woman whose insatiable thirst for knowledge made her feel the need to find a place to cultivate her spirit, her intellect, and she found it in a convent. That is why at the age of 19 she became a nun and the convent became her library, a cultural meeting point. This woman was Sister Juana Inés de la Cruz, the Mexican woman for whom the National Book Day is celebrated in Mexico every November 12.

In Sor Juana Inés we find a work of solid thought, a poetry that is above any school or literary current, which addresses the theme of love with a certain naturalness and with much restraint. Her struggle for women's equality in society also stands out. She was the living example that women are endowed with the same intellectual capacities as men, that is why she defended the right of women to equality, to be more than the wife of so-and-so, more than the mother of so-and-so's children, a fact that made her a powerful voice, not only for women, but above all for men, so that they would see what we were missing by denying women the development of their talent.

The intention of this post is to generate curiosity in order for you to approach the work of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a woman who is lost from sight because of her intellectual abilities.
