Hive Open Mic | Week 156 | Gabán (Instrumental Improvisation) [En-Es]

We are back on the stage on #openmic for its 156th week. This means the platform has existed 3 years. Happy third anniversary. I want to express my gratitude to all the team that makes this weekly window of music possible.

This week's topic is and Extreme one. It comes as a blessing since you're about to listen to my first time improvising on camera. I'm playing a Gabán. This is a fixed harmonic pattern of Joropo. There's lots of these patterns. They are usually referred as "Golpes" (strummings). The idea behind them if that there was an original form of each one but that has been lost through the years. Now, it exists as part of the traditional music.

This is an improvisation on the key of B minor that only has 2 chords. They are played two times each in a signature of 3/4. The chords are B minor and F# seventh on case your wondering. And this cycle repeats until the song ends.

It's has been my biggest challenge to record so far. I have never played it the same way twice as hanving the freedom of those two chord as a base gives you plenty of possibilities to do a lot. So I had to get all the patterns and phrases on my brain and just go with the flow to develop an idea. It was awesome! I felt the freedom of music on another level. Maybe even an extreme level.

El día de hoy volvemos al escenario del #opemmic durante su semana 156. Con este número, podemos decir que el Hive Open Mic esta cumpliendo 3 años desde su inicio. ¡Quiero desearle un feliz aniversario! Además, quiero agradecer a todo el equipo que hace posible esta plataforma musical. Gracias por darnos este espacio.

El tema de esta semana nos lleva al extremo. Esto viene como anillo al dedo porque es la primera vez que me escucharán improvisando algo. Es una improvisación sobre un Gabán. Esto es un forma del joropo llanero que se toca sobre un patrón armónico fijo. Por esta razón, se le denomina un "Golpe Llanero". Los golpes son formas musicales fijas cuyos originales se han perdido en el tiempo, pero se mantienen como forma musicales dentro de la tradición de una región.

Esta improvisación está en el tono de Sí menor. Se mueve sobre dos acordes en un tiempo de 3/4. Si tienen dudas sobre los acordes, son Sí menos y Fa# séptima. Ambos se tocan por dos compases y se repiten indefinidamente.

Esto ha sido sin duda mi reto más difícil hasta el momento. La dificultad está en que nunca he tocado esto de la misma forma dos veces. Así que solo me aprendí varios patrones rítmicos y repliques. Todo lo demss fluye con el movimiento e idea a desarrollar. Debo decir que estuvo genial. Sentí la libertad de la música a otro nivel. Quizá un nivel cercano al extremo.
