Once again I am pleased to participate in Hive Open Mic Week 177, where we explore "Praise" a theme chosen by our community's friend and recent featured artist: @mhizerbee. Today I share with you my interpretation on the trumpet of a beautiful Christian hymn called "Amazing Grace", composed by the English clergyman and poet John Newton. After being a slaveholder, he became an Anglican minister and a leading abolitionist. The lyrics are a testimony of his conversion and his thanks to God for his grace. The melody is simple and based on a major diatonic scale, giving it a cheerful and hopeful sound. The tempo is moderate, and the rhythm is constant, which creates a sense of unity and cohesion. This piece of music is in G Major and has an I-IV-V harmonic progression that generates a sense of hope and optimism.

Praise has a very beautiful meaning in my life. I feel great gratitude for my Heavenly Father, praising him is an expression of love and adoration for what he means and for the things he does daily for each of his children. I have deep respect and admiration for God, and I am glad that I can show my love and praise to him through sincere prayer, music, and worship in holy places. Every Sunday I go to the meetinghouse where I gather and rejoice in the words of the sacrament prayer, remembering his life and the sacrifice he made for humanity. Also my home is a little piece of heaven where I can study the holy scriptures, pray and sing. I occasionally travel to the temple, a place of worship that is considered the holiest place on earth and where I have the opportunity to learn and make covenants with God. For those of us who have seen God's miracles, praise is mutual love and a beautiful way to say thank you.

    Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind, but now I see

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear
    And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that Grace appear
    The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils and snares
    I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
And Grace will lead me home

The Lord has promised good to me
    His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
    As long as life endures

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail
    And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess within the veil
A life of joy and peace

When we've been there ten thousand years
    Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
    Than when we've first begun.
