El día que conocí a Oliesky Fabre (Olo), por supuesto, yo estaba trabajando. Fuimos a verlo para que nos informara acerca de un proyecto innovador que mantenía en diferentes espacios de su casa, incluyendo el balcón.

Quedé emocionada al ver su visión primermundista, y recuerdo que le dije: "Pero oye, esto parece una cosa del Espacio".

Nos contó que él y su esposa habían comenzado a cultivar microvegetales en medio de la pandemia, como una solución alimentaria, que además, a ellos, les satisfacía mucho.

Hablaba con mucha pasión acerca de los beneficios de estos cultivos muy nobles, y que por ser de ciclo corto proveen de alimento con mayor celeridad a la población.

EnParalelo es el nombre de su proyecto y, de la manera en que lo presentaba, se veía que era su sueño, un sueño de muchos desvelos también y por el que habían trabajado con ahínco hasta ese momento.

The day I met Oliesky Fabre (Olo), of course, I was working. We went to see him to talk about an innovative project he kept in different spaces of his house, including the balcony.

I was thrilled to see his first-world vision, and I remember saying to him: "Hey, this looks like something from Space".

He told us that he and his wife had started growing microgreens in the midst of the pandemic, as a food solution, which they also found very satisfying. Spoke passionately about the benefits of these very noble crops, which, because they are short-cycle, provide food more quickly to the population.

EnParalelo is the name of their project and, from the way he presented it, it was clear that it was their dream, a dream of many sleepless nights and for which they had worked hard up to that moment.

Los microvegetales son las primeras hojas y tallos del cultivo de hortalizas o plantas herbarias. La plántula tiene sólo de 7 a 14 días y de 1 a 3 pulgadas (3 a 8 cm) de altura.

Con esto ya puedes hacerte una idea, ¿verdad? Casi cualquier verdura o hierba comestible se puede cultivar de esta manera, para lo cual solo se necesita un lugar con luz del sol, o a veces solo luz artificial, agua y un poco de sustrato. Es un cultivo totalmente ecológico que no lleva fertilizantes ni herbicidas

En el apartamento de Olo y su esposa vimos espacios implementados con luces LED, donde perfectamente se cosechaban los microvegetales. Nada… una locura.

Muchos restaurantes de alta cocina en el mundo buscan esto como un producto sofisticado. Los chefs usan los microgreens para decorar, crear platos exquisitos y potenciar los sabores de sus creaciones culinarias.

Pero mi sorpresa fue…

Sí, mi sorpresa fue tremenda cuando descubrí hace unos pocos días a Olo en medio de la faena de construcción de la nave espacial, el gran domo que traerá la revolución de los microvegetales a La Habana.

Microgreens are the first leaves and stems of a vegetable or herbal plant crop. The seedling is only 7 to 14 days old and 1 to 3 inches (3 to 8 cm) tall.

This gives you an idea, right? Almost any edible vegetable or herb can be grown in this way, requiring only a place with sunlight, or sometimes just artificial light, water and a little substrate. It is a totally organic crop that does not use fertilizers or herbicides.

In Olo and his wife's apartment we saw spaces implemented with LED lights, where microgreens were perfectly harvested. Nothing... madness.

Many haute cuisine restaurants around the world seek this as a sophisticated product. Chefs use microgreens to decorate, create exquisite dishes and enhance the flavors of their culinary creations.

But my surprise was...

Yes, my surprise was tremendous when I discovered Olo a few days ago in the middle of the construction work of the spaceship, the great dome that will bring the microgreens revolution to Havana.

En el momento en que lo conocí todavía había incertidumbre en algunas áreas de implementación de su proyecto, pero ahora ya todo estaba sobre ruedas. O debiera decir… ¿sobre algún mecanismo de propulsión?

Fue muy raro porque le estaba comentando a mi madre, cuando pasamos cerca del terreno aquel, que un muchacho tenía ese gran proyecto, me asomé y él estaba allí.

No dudó en conversar un poco con nosotras y ponernos al tanto de todo.

En este video que te muestro es posible notar su pasión y cómo su emprendimiento no solo se trata de obtener beneficios personales, sino de empoderar, en muchas áreas de desarrollo, a las comunidades categorizadas como vulnerables en la ciudad, e incentivar hábitos de alimentación saludable.

It was very strange because I was commenting to my mother, when we passed near that field, that a guy had this great project, I looked over and he was there.

He didn't hesitate to talk to us a little bit and update us on everything.
