Hello dear friends of @hivesucre. It is a privilege to greet you! I am very pleased to present my first material related to music in this great community; that among its established rules has the purpose of inviting us to highlight the cultural and social potential of our State of Sucre. Today I want you to know a little of our musical culture, through a very interesting musical genre called: Polo Oriental".
El Polo Oriental" is an artistic manifestation of traditional Venezuelan music. It is heard and performed in local festivities in the states of Sucre and Nueva Esparta.
"El Polo" is very remarkable and popular within our folklore, it has a very beautiful musical content, with an established and repetitive musical form, that goes through a harmonic and melodic field that goes from major tones to its relative minors. But when it comes to lyrics...you have to be very skilled to create this musical genre. The content of the same is developed in a very interesting way, stanzas are written with the structure of quatrains of hendecasyllabic and duodecasyllabic verses. Also in some cases octosyllabic verses. That is, the Pole has a musical form that will always be the same, but really what varies in it is the content of its lyrics and rubatos in its melody. This means that any poet who is skilled in writing quatrains of this type can also write lyrics to the melody of an Eastern Pole.
Currently in many parts of Venezuela the Eastern Pole is closely related to the State of Nueva Esparta, even called "Polo Margariteño", this was the name of a Polo recorded by the famous singer Soledad Bravo, very well known in the country. From there it is supposed that this opinion matrix began to be generated. Also Francisco Mata, Francisco Pacheco and Serenata Guayanesa, among other national artists included this beautiful musical form in their repertoire. Even so, the most outstanding interpreters of this traditional genre at national level have been Hernán Marín, María Rodríguez and Gualberto Ibarreto, natives of the State of Sucre.
I recently had the pleasure of having a very interesting conversation with Hernán Marín himself, 84 years old, who is a researcher, living national heritage of our Venezuela and one of the greatest exponents of our oriental music...and among several things we talked about various traditional genres...he mentioned that in his research he discovered that several musical genres of eastern Venezuela were born in Sucre, including the Polo Oriental. Sucre in times of the Spanish conquest was one of the first important settlements on the mainland. He also mentioned that there is no exact certainty of how old this musical genre is, but that if we could focus on the memories of several popular cultors or the first recordings, where what refers to the Polo Oriental in times of yore was only accompanied musically with #cuatrovenezolano and maracas; after these the drum. Then other instruments were incorporated to the same as the mandolin, the oriental bandola, the guitar, the bass and even the violin.
