Greetings, people. Welcome once again to a new vlog about the A Song of Ice and Fire universe. Last time, we talked about the final season of Game of Thrones. One that left most people with a very bad taste in their mouths. And despite the huge disappointment, HBO decided to redeem itself, launching a prequel that has once again glued us all to our TV sets.

House of the Dragon is a series based on the book Fire and Blood, a kind of historical encyclopedia that narrates some of the events that took place in the so-called dance of dragons. The history of Game of Thrones is marked by several events that took place long before the first events of the books began.

The first, Game of Thrones, narrates how after Robert Baratheon's rebellion, the Targaryens had been relegated to exile and not many were left alive. Although from the first season the story begins to omit many of the things that were in the books, this time there is a slightly different formula.

The original book on which this series is based is not completely canonical, or at least it doesn't try to be. Being a book that is told from the point of view of historians who don't have full knowledge of the events that actually happened, George RR Martin decided to make this story partially true and partially just an interpretation.

But being transformed into a television format, you don't have the luxury of a "maybe" or "could have been". This time Fire and Blood, transformed into House of the Dragon, launches a kind of canon that ties in with the events of Game of Thrones.

However, for many, it is not entirely good that a series that had such an unsatisfactory ending should be the continuation of a series that aims to fix some of those mistakes. So we could talk about a new canon, or simply omit some things and let the incongruities play out.

It has already been seen from the beginning that the iron throne, some of the locations, and in general some of the things that are raised in A Song of Ice and Fire, are much closer to what is seen in House of the Dragon. And that has its good points. I, as a fan, am grateful that they're trying to be faithful to those visual elements, taking advantage of a better budget, and that the series is fully established thanks to the Game of Thrones precedent.

It has been brutally successful, and they knew it. For that reason, we have seen that in many scenes and many details there is a greater investment. The dragons, on this occasion, are much, much bigger.

The implementation of the CGI that had already been developed in Game of Thrones doesn't change, it doesn't look different, but it does feel much bigger. In other details, I think they could have improved, but it's not worth complaining about things that were perhaps limited by +budget. Rather, we should be quite happy that this time they have tried to do as much as possible.

The choice of actors seems to have been quite right. There is the case of Daemon Targaryen, played by the very talented Matt Smith. An actor I've been following since he worked as Dr. Who and who I remember as one of the best actors to have played the role. His main characteristic as an actor is to know how to give a lot of charisma to any character he plays.

But Daemon is simply amazing because he's a character that gives you so many reasons to hate him, but in the end, it's very difficult to do so. Whether it's because of his charisma, because of Matt Smith's masterful performance, or because his scenes are simply too spectacular to pass up - I'm talking about the blessed scene where he didn't say a single word and completely carried the episode.

But he's not the only actor to shine. Emma D'Arcy has been spectacular as Rhaenyra Targaryen. The actor who plays Viserys, Paddy Considine, not only had one of the best performances in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, he had one of the best performances in the history of television.

A character who showed that he may not have been the best king, but he was always a good father to Rhaenyra. And through some messages, very subtly conveyed through visual metaphors, in the end, Viserys became a worthy king. And that, for how it was approached and how well it conveyed the feelings it was meant to convey, I feel he deserves an award.

Some elements have upset some people. Maybe because in the original story there were things that were a bit different, or at least that's what was conveyed, but you have to take into account that none of those events are totally canonical, so really the writers of the series had a lot of freedom and what they've done works quite well.

I've said it before and I still didn't know the story well. This series is very much focused on the Targaryen family and the conflict is almost entirely limited to them. You're indeed going to see different houses joining each cause and at that point, when the dragon dance really starts, we're going to see a lot of characters outside of the house Targaryen show up and they're going to completely steal the screen. But for now, that's what we got.

Saludos, gente. Bienvenidos una vez más a un nuevo vlog sobre el universo Canción de Hielo y Fuego. En la pasada ocasión, hablamos sobre la temporada final de Game of Thrones. Una que dejó a la mayoría con un muy mal sabor de boca. Y a pesar de la gran decepción, HBO decidió redimirse, lanzando una precuela que nos ha vuelto a pegar a todos a nuestro televisor.

House of the Dragon es una serie basada en el libro Fuego y Sangre, una especie de enciclopedia histórica que narra algunos de los eventos que ocurrieron en la llamada danza de dragones. La historia de Game of Thrones está marcada por varios eventos que ocurrieron muchísimo antes de que empezaran los primeros sucesos de los libros.

El primero, Juego de Tronos, narra como luego de la rebelión de Robert Baratheon, Los Targaryen habían quedado relegados al exilio y no eran muchos los que quedaban con vida. Aunque desde la primera temporada la historia empieza a omitir muchas de las cosas que había en los libros, esta vez hay una fórmula un tanto diferente.

El libro original en el que se basa esta serie no es completamente canónico, o por lo menos no intenta serlo. Al ser un libro que se trata de narrar desde el punto de vista de historiadores que no tienen total conocimiento de los eventos que realmente ocurrieron, George RR Martin decidió que esta historia fuera parcialmente cierta y parcialmente la interpretación.

Pero al ser transformada a un formato de televisión, no te puedes dar el lujo de hacer un «tal vez» o «pudo ser». Esta vez Fuego y Sangre, transformado en House of the Dragon, lanza una especie de canon que se enlaza con los eventos de Game of Thrones.

Sin embargo, para muchos no es del todo bueno que una serie que tuvo un final tan insatisfactorio, sea la continuidad de una serie que pretende arreglar algunos de esos errores. Así que podríamos hablar de un nuevo canon, o simplemente omitir algunas cosas y dejar que las incongruencias se den.

Ya se ha visto desde el inicio que el trono de hierro, algunas de las locaciones, y en general algunas de las cosas que se plantean en Canción de Hielo y Fuego, son mucho más cercanas a lo que se ve en House of the Dragon. Y eso tienen sus puntos positivos. Yo, como un fanático, estoy agradecido de que intentan ser fieles a esos elementos visuales, aprovechando un mejor presupuesto y que la serie está completamente establecida gracias al precedente de Game of Thrones.

Ha tenido un éxito brutal, y ellos lo sabían. Por esa razón, hemos visto que en muchas escenas y en muchos detalles se nota una mayor inversión. Los dragones, en esta ocasión, llegan a ser muchísimo más grandes. La implementación del CGI que ya se había desarrollado en Game of Thrones, no cambia, no luce diferente, pero sí se siente mucho más grande. En otros detalles, creo que pudieron haber mejorado, pero no vale la pena quejarse de cosas que tal vez estaban limitadas por +presupuesto. Más bién hay que estar bastante contentos de que en esta ocasión han tratado de hacer todo lo posible.

La elección de los actores parece haber sido bastante acertada. Está el caso de Daemon Targaryen, interpretado por el talentosísimo Matt Smith. Un actor al que he venido siguiendo desde que trabajó como Dr. Who y a quien recuerdo como uno de los mejores que ha pasado por ese rol. Su característica principal como actor es saber darle mucho carisma a cualquiera que sea el personaje que interprete.

Pero lo de Daemon es simplemente impresionante, ya que es un personaje que te da muchísimas razones para odiarlo, pero al final es muy difícil hacerlo. Ya sea por su carisma, ya sea por la magistral interpretación de Matt Smith, o porque sus escenas son simplemente demasiado espectaculares como para dejarlas pasar por alto —Estoy hablando de la bendita escena en la que no dijo una sola palabra y se llevó por completo el episodio—.

Pero no es el único actor que se ha lúcido. Emma D’Arcy ha sido espectacular como Rhaenyra Targaryen. El actor que interpreta a Viserys, Paddy Considine, no solo tuvo una de las mejores interpretaciones dentro del universo Canción de Hielo y Fuego, tuvo una de las mejores interpretaciones en la historia de la televisión.

Un personaje que demostró que tal vez no era el mejor rey, pero siempre fue un buen padre para Rhaenyra. Y a través de algunos mensajes, muy sutilmente transmitidos a través de metáforas visuales, al final Viserys se convirtió en un rey digno. Y eso, por como lo plantearon y por lo bien que transmitió los sentimientos que debía transmitir, siento que se merece un premio.

Hay elementos que han disgustado a algunos. Tal vez porque en la historia original hubo cosas un poco diferentes, o al menos eso es lo que se transmitía, pero hay que tomar en cuenta que ninguno de esos eventos es totalmente canónico, así que realmente los escritores de la serie tenían mucha libertad y lo que han hecho funciona bastante bien.

Lo había dicho antes y todavía no conocía bien la historia. Esta serie está muy centrada en la familia Targaryen y el conflicto se limita casi totalmente a ellos. Es cierto que van a ver diversas casas que se unirán a cada causa y en ese momento, cuando inicie realmente la danza de dragones, vamos a ver que aparecerán muchos personajes fuera de la casa Targaryen que se van a robar por completo la pantalla. Pero por ahora eso es lo que se tiene.
