Para nadie es un secreto que a pesar que la filosofía es de las disciplinas más antiguas de la historia de la civilización occidental, en ninguna época ha sido demasiado relevante, y en este momento de la historia no es diferente. Si caminas por los pasillos universitarios donde ofertan la licenciatura en filosofía, verás pasillos bastantes desolados en comparación a otras carreras. Ahora bien, la carencia de su popularidad sea por su complejidad o quizá su falta de practicidad en un mundo capitalista, no hace de la filosofía algo inservible.

Pienso que en toda época hay una necesidad de la filosofía, déjame explicarte por qué. La filosofía en el fondo, lo que busca es proporcionar herramientas discursivas para lograr una auto reflexión, a nivel personal o nivel social. En otras palabras, entender porqué somos como somos. Normalmente actuamos o pensamos de un modo determinado, sin preguntarnos por qué el mundo es así, o por qué yo soy de ese modo y no de otro. La filosofía nos pone frente a nosotros mismos y nos hace conscientes de aquello en nosotros que es más “obvio” y que por ello jamás lo cuestionamos. La filosofía es un continuo preguntar ¿Por qué? al estilo de los niños pequeños que siempre andan por todos lados preguntando ¿por qué?

La filosofía jamás estará satisfecha con alguna respuesta, por eso es un continuo discurrir para destapar sesgos o simplemente proporcionar perspectivas diferentes que quizá no habían sido consideradas.

It is no secret that although philosophy is one of the oldest disciplines in the history of Western civilization, in no era has it been too relevant, and at this moment in history it is no different. If you walk through the university corridors where they offer the degree in philosophy, you will see quite desolate corridors compared to other careers. However, the lack of its popularity, whether due to its complexity or perhaps its lack of practicality in a capitalist world, does not make philosophy useless.

I think that in every age there is a need for philosophy, let me explain why. At its core, what philosophy seeks is to provide discursive tools to achieve self-reflection, on a personal or social level. In other words, to understand why we are the way we are. Normally we act or think in a certain way, without asking ourselves why the world is the way it is, or why I am that way and not another. Philosophy brings us face to face with ourselves and makes us aware of that in us that is most "obvious" and therefore we never question it. Philosophy is a continuous asking Why? in the style of little children who are always going around asking Why?

Philosophy will never be satisfied with any answer, so it is a continuous discourse to uncover biases or simply provide different perspectives that may not have been considered.
