Hello traveling friends! Today I bring you an interesting post, we are going to visit an abandoned mine to do something type of "extreme tourism" and I say this because some parts of the mine I visited are too dangerous and you can see signs of "risk of death" others of "corrosive water" "I always liked visiting different places and if you have something to show us we would be welcome! It is not every day that we can see many kilometers of different types of minerals with a drone. Join me on this adventure!🚩🧭🙇‍♂️

Despite the Mine not being operational for more than 40 years, it was never forgotten and on the contrary the municipal chamber invested a lot of money to turn it into a tourist jewel of the village, there are still two people living in the village who worked almost all their lives. in the mines, they were the ones who were interviewed to find out what the working conditions in a mine were! Among so many words, what surprised me is that the man said that we all know that the south of Portugal is hot, now imagine being in the middle of the sun for many hours on a super hot ground, he said that they practically worked with little clothing to tolerate the climate. !🍍🌏🚙

Visiting the São Domingos mine is an opportunity to learn a lot about the history of Portugal and how over the years people settled in these lands because they were rich in minerals, the exploitation of the mine began more than 3000 years before Christ and dates back to the Bronze Age, when the Phoenicians and Carthaginians arrived in Portugal, later the Romans! Admission is free, it allows you to do some trails, you can learn and you have free parking.👀🧭

After the Romans disappeared from the territory, Portugal was an opportunity for the Muslims to inhabit the lands and in that stage of history until 1200 the Arabs exploited the mining resources to create everything from military tools to items to be used on a daily basis, many of them. decorative! It is believed that the Guadiana River, the one you saw in the video, served as a means of transportation to carry the mineral throughout the territory and even export resources to other lands!🌄🧭🚙

Why is it extreme tourism?🙇‍♂️🚩/ Por que es turismo extremo?🌏😍🚙

Clearly everything seems abandoned and there are several legends here, one of the most famous is that from here some roads were created where things like food were smuggled to Spain. This at the end of the 18th century, how the police knew about this situation, guarded the roads at night. They were filled with dangerous people, there are many records in the smuggling museum a few minutes from here that many people died on the roads smuggling! The atmosphere of the mine is very heavy, everything is colorful and it seems that everyone had left the place quickly, even forgetting many things. Throughout the mine there are several trails that you can take but be careful, you pass too close to the water and if you fall you can put your health at risk!🚙🌏🍍

water with pH 1🙇‍♂️🚩/agua con pH 1🌏🔬🚙

According to the last study carried out in the mine, the water showed pH values of 1-2, so this is too dangerous and harmful for you to have an idea, hydrochloric acid has a pH of -1, in reality there is nothing in nature with those conditions the only site is the "lake Ijen crater" with a pH of 0.5, is this not enough data to classify the site as extreme tourism? Also, in summer you must be prepared, the temperature down here is around almost 40 degrees.🍍🌏🙇‍♂️

    Arid and colorful landscape🙇‍♂️🚩/Paisaje arido y colorido🌏🔬🚙

The work in the mine ended because all the mineral resources were exhausted, plus the market was very complicated, which led to the abandonment of mining exploitation here! However, it left a mark on European history since it was able to extract more than 25 million tons of copper a very large figure and provided local employment to thousands of workers over a century of work! They all emigrated from the town in search of opportunities, so in 1907 the village had less than 600 people! And how the situation in the country is going, I'm not surprised that soon this will be a ghost city!🌏🍍

    An incredible experience🙇‍♂️🚩/Una experiencia increible🌏🔬🚙

What a good choice to have gone through the mine! The experience and landscape that you witness here is unique in the world, few places like these survive to this day or at least are available as tourist routes! I learned a lot of things I didn't know about mining and Portuguese history, who knew? Leave your mark here where the Romans, Arabs and Germans once lived!👨‍🏫🍍
