Marnie

Friday night~

So, when I was sick with the cold last time I stayed in bed for a few days, and a tv station here was airing Ghibli movies back to back for the entire weekends and, I saw so many that I have already seen and loved, and, by chance I caught one title that I had not previously seen, "When Marnie Was There" ... and it kind of stayed with me, the story and the characters.

For a Ghibli movie, it had an unexpected poignancy, about abandonment and the passage of time and about family. I think, instead of their usual adventurey plots, it had a bit of bittersweet sadness. Of course, I like the adventurey titles, very much... My favourite Ghibli has always been "Spirited Away" :)

Anyway, I sat down today and drew Marnie from the movie. But I didn't work off references so this was from memory and I think it looks very different to the actual character XD I need to slow down probably when drawing and look up references first, but sometimes it's hard to stop the flow once your hand starts to move~

What I love about some Japanese animated movies are ......the background arts * ___ * They are sometimes are just pure amazinggggggg.... Just looking at the backgrounds in these animated movies are M A G I C A L~
