    About :

Swimming has evolved from being a leisure activity into one of the most competitive sport on the planet and right now, there are four major swimming strokes humans have developed and adapted to over the past few decades. These swim strokes all have different capabilities, different techiques and instances when using them are of great advantage. I'll be talking about each of these strokes in this video, how they are done, when they can be used and their pros and cons.

The first on my list is the frontcrawl aka freestyle. This swim stroke involves the swimmer swimming on their belly, pulling water behind with both hands one after the other and kicking with the scissor kick which is kicking with both legs one after the other. This stroke is regarded to be the fastest and is one of the most used swim stroke all around the world. The pros of the frontcrawl are that it is easy to learn and can help swimmers cover very long distances without getting tired and the con is that it is very competitive especially in competitive swimming since everyone can do it so well.

The second is the breastroke which is everyone's favorite stroke for some quite obvious reasons. This swim stroke involves the swimmer swimming on their belly and using both hands to pull simultaneously and both legs to kick backwards simultaneously as well (pulling and kicking are done one after the other and not at the same time). The pros of this stroke are that the stroke requires the least energy and effort is the easiest to learn. This is why it's everyone's favorite as it can be used to cover a great distance even far more than the frontcrawl without the swimmer getting tired. It is also the best stroke for learning how to float on water. The con of this stroke is that it is the slowest of all the swim strokes.

The third stroke is the backstroke which is my personal major stroke. This stroke involves swimmers swimming on their back and using both hands to pull one after the other and both legs to kick just like in the frontcrawl. The main difference between this stroke and the frontcrawl is that the swimmer is swimming on their back and their face isn't facing the water. This is the second toughest stroke to learn because it takes so much energy to move just like the butterfly and waves of water often disturbs the face of swimmers especially the nose as they swim on their back(so it's best to use a nose plug). The pros of this stroke is that it can be very relaxing when donw slowly and gives swimmers the chance to breathe very often unlike other strokes and the cons are that it isn't as fast as the frontcrawl and butterfly and can't be used to cover very long distances quickly and easily like the frontcrawl and breastroke.

The last but not the least is the butterfly stroke is the most graceful of all the swimstrokes. It is regarded as the second fastest and the most exciting to watch. Here the swimmers pull water with both hands but do the dolphin kick non- stop throughout the swim. Swimmers who swim the butterfly effectively are seen as professional swimmers and believed to have reached the zenith of swimming. The pros of this stroke is that it is fast, looks graceful and exciting to watch. It is also a great stroke for work out as it takes so much energy. The cons are that it is not easy to execute and takes alot of time to learn and perfect, it cannot be used to cover very long distances like the frontcrawl and breastroke, and it uses alot of energy which results in swimmers getting tired fast.

Learning all four strokes is essential for anyone who wants to be a competitive swimmer or a professional. Good thing is you can start learning them all at once but learning one after the other is the best way. Thank you for watching and I hope you found this useful.
