    About :

Hello Everyone. So this is my first post in the Hive Learners community and it's really nice to be finally doing this after so much planning. I'd be sharing mostly my journey as a swimmer as I believe alot of people could learn one or two things from them.

So today, I'll be talking about how to deal with hydrophobia and gaining water confidence. Hydrophobia which is the fear of water bodies is a challenge many people who are new to swimming face and struggle with. This is something I focus on in the first sessions with beginners so they'll feel comfortable, relaxed and safe in the swimming pool. This first lessons are very important as they allow the swim coach have a better idea of where their student is at and the level of hydrophobia. In most cases, people feel so comfortable with the water after the first day of swim classes, but sometimes and very rarely, it could take a few more classes for some other beginner swimmers to feel comfortable and safe in the shallow areas.

So basically, what I do is to allow the swimmer take series of slow walks in the shallow area from side to side. They do this first with their hands by their sides and then with their hands spread out in the water. This allows them feel comfortable with the areas they are at and will subsequently make them confident in that area of the pool where they'll be having future trainings. This video shows the series of some of the movements and their advantages.

Other activities like games and sports like water polo can be played in the shallow end of the pool to allow the swimmer feel comfortable with the swimming pool and stay confident. Using swimming accessories like the swimming goggles and nose plug would make the experience much more easier and pleasurable. If you wish to carry out any of these activities as a beginner, please ensure you're doing so under the supervision of a swim coach or life guard. Thank you so much for checking it out.
Please feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions. I'll see you all in the next one.
