This is a Hive/3speak exclusive of my latest song that I just wrote today. It started when was watching a programme on Sky Arts last night where Brian Johnson of AC/DC was chatting to Dave Grohl. I sometimes pick up a guitar when watching TV and this tune came to me as a sort of Foo Fighters rock song. I am reading a book about songwriting and it says that titles cannot be copyrighted. So why not write a song that is mostly made of the titles of other songs?
This is actually hard as you have to think of titles that will fit. I wanted to mix negative and positive ideas. This is just what came to me.
I was playing the Epiphone LP Jnr I got recently through my Zoom G3X. There is a sync issue with the video, but I just wanted to get the song down. Here are the lyrics. I messed up a couple of lines. How many titles can you spot? There are no prizes for that.
You know the times they are a changing
We need that bridge over troubled waters now
Mr Blue Sky has gone away
And it's not a perfect day
When our problems are the size of a cow
So let's dance and celebrate the good times
Sing hallelujah, twist and shout
We should go on a summer holiday
Don't want to see the tears of a clown
Is it the end of the world as we know it?
Two minutes to midnight been and gone
Bowie said we had five years
Goombay Dance Band cried seven tears
Maybe we're just bad to the bone
So let's reach for the stars and party
Drink some whisky from the jar
We should let the good times roll
Cos I'm in love with my car
I know I said I don't like Mondays
And there's a total eclipse of my heart
But I'm still standing
Hope for a wonderful world
