I have not done a #DrumDay video for a few weeks. With travel and COVID there has not been so much time for drumming, but I will get back into it.
Billie Jean by Michael Jackson is often given as a prime example of the standard rock beat. I found this backing track without drums or vocal to play along with.
Watching it back I see I am still pulling back my left hand between hits. I need to keep it over the drum to get better timing. I may have slipped off the beat a bit, but it is hard when you normally rely on the drummer to keep you in time. I was listening to the bass instead. I need to route my headphone cable better as it was getting in the way, but I need those to hear everything clearly. I did pull my kit around to be face on to the camera this time. It is all on a bit of carpet, so I can just pull that to move it. I need the carpet as the bass drum has spikes and I do not want those directly on my wooden floor. It also reduces the external noise a little. You can get proper drumming mats, but I just use an old rug that is folded over. The flowery mat you can see is the protect the floor from the wheels of my office chair. I do have a basic drum 'throne', but tend not to use it.
Rock on!
