El tema de la salud mental en el deporte, toma cada vez más relevancia al momento de derrumbarse los muros que antes no dejaban ver a aficionados (en realidad a algunos) los padecimientos que posiblemente sean causantes de ciertos desempeños de los deportistas a los que cuáles apoyan y es que por mucho tiempo este tema fue tabú, como muchos otros, aunque lamentablemente aficionados y prensa siguen olvidando que los atletas son personas y que todavía son vistos como máquinas para entretener a millones de personas en cada juego del que son parte.

La decisión de hacer una publicación sobre la salud mental específicamente en el fútbol, la tomé porque el pasado domingo la jugadora de la selección femenina de Venezuela, Sonia O’Neill, emitió un comunicado en sus redes sociales en dónde prioriza su estabilidad mental en vez de su carrera futbolística, una decisión valiente y que posiblemente muchos jugadores no se atreven de tomar y sé que no puedo comparar la carrera de esta jugadora con la de otros que son megas estrellas del deporte, las cuales por contratos con marcas deportivas, clubes, mantener las exigencias de representantes y familiares les evita alejarse de ese mundo, pero eso no minimiza que las acciones de Sonia, no sea las mejores; en mi opinión son las adecuadas porque no puede sucumbir por presiones de otros y más si atentan con su estabilidad emocional.

Desde hace un tiempo, el fútbol ha presenciado episodios tristes en dónde exjugadores y jugadores activos ha sucumbido al sufrimiento que padecen de manera silenciosa y que los ha llevado a tentar y a terminar con sus vidas, está situación creo que a pesar de cada vez estar más presente en la sociedad actual, todavía no se enfrenta con la seriedad debida y es que cada vez más existe la exposición y exigencia por alcanzar una expectativa creada por aficionados, prensa, medios televisivos, marcas deportivas y demás, en mi opinión eso es muy difícil de detener, pero si creo que quienes están cerca de los jugadores, los que verdaderamente les importa la estabilidad mental de estas personas, son los que deben brindar protección y ayuda al observar el más mínimo signo de que puede estar sucediendo cualquier cosa, es necesario que cada jugador y cada persona, tenga una imagen positiva, sean familiares, gente del club donde juegue o hasta que obtenga una ayuda profesional, alguien que le motive a tomar mejores decisiones, que le apoye y entienda para que puedan tener una carrera estable en todo ámbito que pueda experimentar; todo eso es necesario así como la educación del aficionado del fútbol, una meta que podrá verse como difícil de alcanzar, pero que no debe ser vista como algo imposible porque es mejor apoyar a la persona que está en ese momento en vez de homenajear a quien ya no está y es imposible de ayudar.

For some time now, soccer has witnessed sad episodes where former and active players have succumbed to the suffering they suffer silently and that has led them to try and end their lives, this situation I think that despite being increasingly present in today's society, is still not faced with due seriousness and is that increasingly there is exposure and demand to achieve an expectation created by fans, press, television media, sports brands and others, in my opinion that is very difficult to stop, But I do believe that those who are close to the players, those who truly care about the mental stability of these people, are the ones who should provide protection and help to observe the slightest sign that anything can be happening, it is necessary that every player and every person has a positive image, whether family, people from the club where he plays or even get professional help, someone to motivate him to make better decisions, to support him and understand so they can have a stable career in all areas that can be experienced; all this is necessary as well as the education of the soccer fan, a goal that may be seen as difficult to achieve, but should not be seen as something impossible because it is better to support the person who is at that moment instead of paying tribute to the one who is no longer there and is impossible to help.
