    QUIÉN MATÓ A EZEQUIEL ZAMORA

    WHO KILLED EZEQUIEL ZAMORA

That morning of January 10, 1860, he carried with him premonitory airs. It was said by the strange movement of the undergrowth that was fanned by the plains breeze. The federal troops continued their path towards San Carlos, which in the distance was shown in a whirlwind of smoke. "Free lands and men!" Was the feverish slogan that each warrior chanted in front of that panorama.

The resistance was hostile. A mysterious call directed the general to a secluded courtyard to locate enemy fire. After pointing with his index finger the movement of his army, a brutal shudder made him stumble: a leaden, clear, solid blow suddenly struck him in the face. He bent his knees and fell suddenly. Only when his aide turned him around to see him up close could misfortune be discovered: a river of blood flowed from his right eye. It was the end.

In this way, the Valiant Citizen, the General of the Sovereign People, the undisputed leader of the federal cause and the unassailable hero of freedom, was assassinated one hundred and forty-seven years ago: Ezequiel Zamora (1817-1860).
