Hello! Thanks for stopping by here. I continue to explore and share Christmas carols from different parts of the world. Today I present a Christmas carol from the region of the Canary Islands, Spain, entitled _ "Tonight is Christmas Eve" _.

  The Canario archipelago is made up of 7 islands; Hierro, La Gomera, Las Palmas, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. But in the hearts of many Spaniards and Canaries, lives the beautiful feeling that Venezuela is the eighth island Canaria. This has its roots and its historical past, and since the seventeenth century, an important migratory flow begins from the Canary Islands to the east of Venezuela, which gradually was distributed "to other areas of Venezuela that they considered more attractive, such as the region Caracas, Aragua, Guarenas or Los Llanos ”(Hernández Gonzáles, 1994, p. 162).

In 1676, after the destruction of three mission populations and the town of San
Carlos by the Carib Indians and the French, the Capuchin missionaries were
aware that the only alternative for the future to strengthen the missions was the
sending Canary families […] (Hernández Gonzáles, 1994, p. 152-153)

  Today the ties between Canaries and Venezuelans remain close since there are many direct descendants of Canaries in Venezuela and vice versa. The cultural ties are no less close, we see in the east of the country a number of musical expressions that have their origin in the peninsular (Andalusia) and Canary Islands musical traditions. An example of this is the name and the similarity that, with some variations in form, the Venezuelan Malagueña and the Canarian Malagueña keep.

  But having said this, it must be clarified that Venezuelan music is not the exclusive result of Spanish culture, but rather the result of the convergence of different peoples, cultures and musical traditions; the African, the European, the Andean, among others ...

& nbsp; Taking as inspiration the mixture and the cultural integration, the meeting of the peoples, I wanted to make, for this Canarian Christmas carol, an arrangement for solo piano impregnated with different influences and periods of music reflected in the harmony and in the interpretation. In the harmony I incorporate elements of Jazz and Impressionism following the example of Duke Ellinton; In the interpretive I use the rubato (characteristic of romanticism), and finally, I end the piece with the singular pianistic accompaniment of the Venezuelan waltz.

  Hola! Gracias por pasar por aquí. Sigo explorando y compartiendo en este tiempo de Navidad, villancicos de distintas partes del mundo. Hoy les presento un villancico de la región de Canarias, España, titulado "Esta noche es Nochebuena".

  El archipiélago Canario está conformado por 7 islas; Hierro, La Gomera, Las Palmas, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura y Lanzarote. Pero en el corazón de muchos españoles y canarios, habita el bonito sentir de que Venezuela es la octava isla Canaria. Esto tiene sus raíces y su pasado histórico, y es que ya desde el siglo XVII, comienza un importante flujo migratorio desde las Islas Canarias hacia el oriente Venezuela, que paulatinamente se distribuyó “por otras áreas de Venezuela que consideraban más atractivas, como la región caraqueña, Aragua, Guarenas o los Llanos” (Hernández Gonzáles, 1994, p. 162).

En 1676, tras la destrucción de tres poblaciones misionales y la villa de San
Carlos por los indios Caribes y los franceses, los misioneros capuchinos fueron
conscientes de que la única alternativa de futuro para afianzar las misiones era el
envío de familias canarias […] (Hernández Gonzáles, 1994, p. 152-153)

  Hoy día los lazos entre canarios y venezolanos siguen siendo estrechos pues son numerosos los descendientes directos de canarios en Venezuela y viceversa. Los lazos en lo cultural no son menos cercanos, vemos en el oriente del país una cantidad de expresiones musicales que tienen su origen en las tradiciones musicales peninsulares (Andalucía) y canarias. Un ejemplo de esto es el nombre y la semejanza que, con algunas variaciones de forma, guardan la Malagueña venezolana y la Malagueña canaria.

  Pero dicho esto hay que aclarar que la música venezolana no es resultado exclusivo de la cultura española, sino que es el resultado de la convergencia de distintos pueblos, culturas y tradiciones musicales; la africana, la europea, la andina, entre otras...

  Tomando como inspiración la mezcla y la integración cultural, el encuentro de los pueblos, he querido hacer, para este villancico canario, un arreglo para piano solo impregnado de distintas influencias y periodos de la música reflejados en la armonía y en la interpretación. En la armonía incorporo elementos del Jazz y del impresionismo siguiendo el ejemplo de Duke Ellinton; En lo interpretativo hago uso del rubato (característico del romanticismo), y por último, termino la pieza con el singular acompañamiento pianístico del valse venezolano.
