Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town, South Africa!
I have decided to start a challenging series of posts! BUT I Need your Help!
This is the challenge I'm setting myself every week: I ask for cover song requests on the MUSIC community, and then pick a favourite song to learn and post a live video of me attempting it. The person who asked for the winning song then gets 50% of the post rewards in HP!
Thanks to some great help from @eugelys, I received a lot of excellent requests! If I didn't get around to your request this week, please keep asking for it and there is a good chance it will win in the weeks to come!
So everyone from this week (@neruel @soldierofdreams @karelysk89 @obaro @elielkenobi @yisusth @itzchemaya @anna-newkey @sunsethunter @marelizezeeman @edwardstobia @jlinaresp @pixelhuntersam @naradamoon @zakludick @loadreaper @stevemuis @nickydee @itsostylish): Please keep trying with either the same request, or a different one, in the comments of this post?
There were also some songs that I would love to tackle with my singing and writing friend @clairemobey. When I see her again we will do some duets, or songs where she should sing lead, and share the posts and reward the people who requested those songs as well! This request challenge seems to be (hopefully) taking off!
Let's get to this week's winner!
This week's winner is @obaro with his request of "Someone you Loved" by Lewis Capaldi. What a fantastic song! I remember loving it when it was on the radio! You can view the original video here, with lyrics at the bottom of the post:
Now @obaro is from Nigeria, and he is a prolific songwriter himself, and is often using challenges like Three Tunes Tuesday and Hive Open Mic as prompts to write multiple new songs in a single week, which is amazing! He sings, plays guitar, piano and drums, so please follow him and give your support.
Last week I picked a second bonus song and rewarded the person who requested it with 20% of the post rewards in HP. There were so many wonderful requests this week that I cannot help doing that again! @marelizezeeman requested "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, without even knowing I play a bit of harmonica! Believe it or not, I never really play this song - but with a bit of transposing the key, maybe I should? You can view the original video here, with lyrics at the bottom of the post:
Now @marelizezeeman is also from Cape Town like me, but I have never met her - so hopefully giving her the bonus request doesn't feel like nepotism! I would like to meet her though, as she plays the violin wonderfully and it would be great if she did so with myself and @clairemobey for some videos on HIVE!
@marelizezeeman is also brand new to HIVE, but is already posting wonderful violin videos... as well as some mad stuff about running marathons... so please follow her and help her account grow!
NOW READER, perhaps next week is your turn? Please give me some suggestions of cover songs you would like me to try next week, and maybe you'll be the winner next time!
See you Next Week!
Lyrics for "Someone you Loved"
I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to save me
This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy
I need somebody to heal
Somebody to know
Somebody to have
Somebody to hold
It's easy to say
But it's never the same
I guess I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain
Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved
I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to turn to
This all or nothing way of loving got me sleeping without you
Now, I need somebody to know
Somebody to heal
Somebody to have
Just to know how it feels
It's easy to say but it's never the same
I guess I kinda liked the way you helped me escape
Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved
And I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes
I fall into your arms
I'll be safe in your sound 'til I come back around
For now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved
But now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved

Lyrics for Piano Man
It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sittin' next to me
Makin' love to his tonic and gin
He says, "Son can you play me a memory?
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger man's clothes"
La, la-la, di-di-da
La-la di-di-da da-dum
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he's quick with a joke, or to light up your smoke
But there's some place that he'd rather be
He says, "Bill, I believe this is killing me"
As a smile ran away from his face
"Well, I'm sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place"
Oh, la, la-la, di-di-da
La-la di-di-da da-dum
Now Paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And he's talkin' with Davy, who's still in the navy
And probably will be for life
And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, they're sharing a drink they call loneliness
But it's better than drinkin' alone
Sing us the song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
'Cause he knows that it's me they've been comin' to see
To forget about life for a while
And the piano, it sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say man what are you doin' here?
Oh, la, la-la, di-di-da
La-la di-di-da da-dum
Sing us the song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright
