Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

I hope you are having a wonderful start to 2024, and that it is going to be a good, productive year for you.

Looking back at 2023, quite a few famous songwriters and musicians passed away. I thought I would do a series of weekly posts about some of them, as well as attempt to cover one or two of the songs that made them so famous.

Here is a list of some of the musicians and songwriters that passed away in 2023, that I will be researching and trying to cover:

Burt Bacharach was a pianist and songwriter. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential figures in 20th century pop music. Similar to the modern-day Max Martin, he is the songwriter and producer who worked behind the scenes of about a 1000 different popular artists who recorded his songs.

He wrote at least 73 hits on the US Pop Charts, mostly in collaboration with lyricist Hal David, and several of them topped the Billboard Hot 100. These include songs like “Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head”, “That’s What Friends are For”, “On My Own”, and the song that I would like to attempt covering today: “Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do)”!

Burt Bacharach won 6 Grammy Awards, 3 Academy Awards and an Emmy Award as well over his career! May he Rest In Peace, and thank you for all the wonderful music!
