Hello everybody on Hive and especially the Hive Open Mic Community! My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa!

This is Week 145 of the Hive Open Mic Challenge, and the theme for the week is “Glory”. That definitely seems to lead me down the path of Gospel or praising God?

I am a big fan of Van Morrison’s music! I have seen him perform live, and he actually looks like a bit of a grumpy old bugger in real life (Haha!) but his voice and music are amazing!

In 1989, he teamed up with Cliff Richard to record “Whenever God Shines His Light”, which is a beautiful song made even more interesting because of the contrast of Van Morrisons powerful, gravelly voice and Cliff Richard’s higher, smooth-as-honey voice, so please be sure to watch the original here:

I think it is Van Morrison’s strongest confirmation of his faith, and the song definitely praises the Glory of God. On the same album (Avalon Sunset 1989), he released another faith-based song “When Will I Ever Learn to Live in God” as well as the very famous love song “Have I Told You Lately”, which has been famously covered by Rod Stewart.
