    Audio-relato: Solitario Azul

¡AAAAHHH!

    Audio-story: Blue Solitaire

The day begins like any other. I wake up and open my eyes, looking at the shingles on my roof, a worn and old color, different from the bright brick color they once wore. I see cobwebs hanging between the wooden beams that support the shingles. I would like to clean them, but I leave them so as not to feel so lonely in this abandoned house.

I get out of bed between moans and groans, for with each passing day, I feel a new ailment I didn't have yesterday. The cold morning wind drifts through the window next to my bed, I peek through the glass in search of someone walking along the lonely street of my neighborhood, but I only find the silence that greets me and the loneliness that accompanies me.

In the distance, I manage to see a small white cat with black spots, walking on the roof of the house in front. It is not a local cat, but I have seen it on other occasions hanging around these houses. Maybe he found a rat's nest in one of these abandoned houses and has come looking for more food. In this shortage, where there is food, that's where you have to go back....

Some time ago a person came to my house, a person from a distant city. She stayed with me for a few days, trying to accompany me and convince me to move away from this abandoned town, where only I and a few animals that took possession of the place were left.

I am struck by the life you have " she told me, "so lonely... " she added.

I guess she felt too much contrast with her busy and noisy lifestyle, something characteristic of her city. I guess she was surprised by the absence of noise there, maybe she was overwhelmed by the loneliness you feel, that kind of loneliness that scares you and makes you wonder what will be there when you turn the corner. In a normal city you know you will find a person, but in this town there is nothing, so most probably you will not find anything, but you never know...

Everything speaks for you " she said, "the walls, your belongings, the environment... everything screams your loneliness ". Those were her words before she said goodbye, after a vain attempt to make me come to my senses and leave my former home behind. I watched her ride away on her little motorcycle and it was even strange when she started it up, because it was the only thing that could be heard in the whole town. There were no children screaming, there were no car noises, no mills, no TVs, no machinery; there was nothing....

What happened? How did I end up being the only inhabitant of this town? I will tell you before my life is extinguished, while the memories are still fresh...

It all started one morning when a strange ship arrived at the dock. We did not understand where it came from, but when it docked, we found no survivors on the ship. This one, as strange as it looked, had something very peculiar on deck. It looked like something had hit it, but from my point of view, it looked like something very big had taken a bite out of that ship. I always saw it that way...

While the boat was being cleaned for repair in the shipyard, the ship gave off a strange, viscous blue liquid that mixed in the sea. We did not give it any importance, as we were simple carpenters. Eventually the fish became scarce and the livelihood of many dwindled. Crops did not do well in any of the seasons following the appearance of that ship. I wonder if both events were related to that blue liquid, but all I know is that people began to leave the town.

The atmosphere felt strange, people said they felt stressed and anxious all the time. There was no place where people did not feel fear or anger, the whole town became a place where no one wanted to live. So everyone took their belongings and left.

Some, ended their lives by jumping into the sea and swimming until they were lost on the horizon. I suppose that, of all the options, that must have been the most agonizing choice of all.

One day, I was strolling along the pier at night and came across that ship, the same one that seemed to have been bitten by something very big. That night, something blue glowed around what, to me, was a bite. I could not conceive that there was something so big as to damage a ship of that size in such a way, but my doubts turned to uneasiness when, that same night, I saw something glowing in the sea with a blue of the same hue.

It was scary and at the same time fascinating, for a part of me wanted to get away from there, but another part of me wanted to see what that glowing thing was and why it had bitten that ship....

Time passed since that night. I got used to being alone and eating cans of tuna about to expire and cans of beans still preserved. I went about my daily routine of walking around town and playing with some of the animals that were still around, but the night before this one, I heard something. I heard the creaking of the way in the distance, on the dock. I didn't go near it in the morning, I just went about writing what I had seen and these last few sheets you are now reading.

I don't know what's going on and I think if I did, I wouldn't understand, but I see a blue light coming through my window and something big pounding on the floor, like footsteps of something very heavy, something heavy and surely hungry. Now I hear it very close and that blue glows even brighter. I feel the creaking of the roof wood in my house, if anyone reads this, say... AAAAHHH!
