Today, October 3rd, would be my mother's 96th birthday.

Saying a few words about her will surely sound repetitive, because she brought together all those positive things that children mention about their mothers. Of very humble origin, she carved out a different future for herself and managed to rise through her work as a singer and actress. It was precisely in this second facet that she met my father, who was a theater director. From there, a family story, a home and two children. She was part of the history of Venezuelan theater, the initiator of radio in Venezuela, a woman of cinema and television. And a traveler with my father.

Precisely in those traveling times, when we lived in Germany, one of the most important singers of the time was Manfred Krug, who was also an actor. One of his great successes was his version in German of the song of the British group The Animals, which was entitled "House of the rising sun", "Es steht ein Haus in New Orleans"in German. I really liked that version and I learned it. My version became my mother's favorite song from that moment on and she always asked me to sing it, something I did countless times, but always the German version.

Today, when I feel her absence, since two years ago, I wanted to pay tribute to her, to give her a gift, so I decided to sing it once again for her.

Hoy, tres de octubre, estaría mi madre cumpliendo 96 años de edad.

Decir unas palabras acerca de ellas seguramente sonará repetitivo, porque ella reunía todas esa cosas positivas que los hijos mencionan de sus madres. De origen muy humilde, ella sola se labró un porvenir diferente y lograr ascender gracias a su labor como cantante y actriz. Fue precisamente en esta segunda faceta que conoció a mi padre, quien era director de teatro. A partir de allí, una historia de familia, un hogar y dos hijos. Fue parte del ahistoria del teatro venezolano, iniciadora de la radio en Venezuela, mujer de cine y de la televisión. Y viajera junto a mi padre.

Precisamente en esos tiempos de viaje, cuando vivíamos en Alemania, uno de los cantantes más importantes del momento era Manfred Krug, quien también era actor. Uno de sus grandes éxitos era su versión en alemán de la canción del grupo británico The Animals, que lleva por título "House of the rising sun", conocida en español como "La casa del sol naciente" y en alemán como "Es steht ein Haus in New Orleans". A mí me gustó mucho esa versión y me la aprendí. Mi versión se convirtió desde ese momento en la canción preferida de mi madre y siempre me pedía que la cantara, algo que hice infinitas veces, pero siempre la versión en alemán.

Hoy, que siento su ausencia, desde hace dos años, quise hacerle un homenaje, darle un regalo, así que decidí cantarla una vez más para ella.
