Something that most people in Hive don't know about me is that I have Italian ancestors and my surname is precisely from those lands. Of course, being my great-grandfather the one who came from Corsica, it is not that I have a lot of Italian, although there are many cultural, phenotype and genotype elements in my family that all claim to come from that Mediterranean land.

Anyway, the song I bring today, although it is one of the maximum representatives of Italy, also managed to break all barriers and has any number of records and recognitions in English-speaking countries, starting with being -according to Wikipedia- the only song that has won a Grammy as song of the year, which is not sung in English. It has been sung in dozens of languages and recorded by the biggest stars from all over the planet.

We are talking about the song that launched the singer Domenico Modugno to worldwide fame, starting from that 1958 San Remo Festival, which was a springboard for him and for the song: "Volare", whose original title is "Nel blu di pinto di blu" (Blue painted blue).

This Italian super hit is my participation, of course with my very personal interpretation, for the Hive Open Mic, week 50.

Algo que la mayoría en Hive desconocen de mí, es que tengo ancestros italianos y mi apellido es precisamente de esas tierras. Por supuesto, siendo mi bisabuelo el que vino de Córcega, no es que yo tenga mucho de italiano, aunque hay muchos elementos culturales, de fenotipo y genotipo en mi familia que todos aseguran que vienen desde esa tierra mediterránea.

De cualquier manera, el tema que traigo hoy, aunque es una de las máximas representantes de Italia, también logró romper todas las barreras y tiene cualquier cantidad de récords y reconocimientos en países de habla inglesa, empezando por ser -según la Wikipedia- la única canción que ha obtenido un Grammy como canción del año, que no es cantada en inglés. Ha sido cantada en decenas de idiomas y grabada por las más grandes estrellas de todo el planeta.

Estamos hablando de la canción que lanzó a la fama mundial al cantante Domenico Modugno, a partir de aquel Festival de San Remo de 1958, que fue trampolín para él y para la canción: "Volare", cuyo título original es "Nel blu di pinto di blu" (Azul pintado de azul).

Este superéxito italiano es mi participación, por supuesto con mi interpretación muy personal, para el Hive Open Mic, semana 50.
