¿Testigos? ¡No es asunto mío! || Witnesses? None of my business!

En muchas ocasiones he leído y escuchado planteamientos como: "lo de los testigos no es un tema que me interese", "no tengo nada que ver con los testigos en Hive", "con el poco HP que yo tengo, no vale la pena ni que me ocupe de eso".

Estoy convencido de que esto es un error garrafal o una clara muestra de una gran ignorancia respecto a lo que son y significan los testigos.

Para empezar hay que entender que son estos los que garantizan la existencia de Hive. Mientras haya, aunque sea uno encendido, Hive existe. Cuando se apague el último, se acabó Hive.

Es cierto que ellos ganan dinero (en forma de HP) y mientras más cerca están del tope, más ganan. Pero mantener activo un nodo de esos requiere inversión (de tiempo, esfuerzo, dinero y más). Además de que las personas detrás de cada uno de estos equipos, por lo general, realizan distintas labores para el desarrollo de la plataforma. Por ejemplo, @blocktrades es quien desarrolla (entre otras cosas) la dapp de Hive.blog. Así mismo, la gente de @steempeak, son quienes llevan adelante la interfaz de Peakd.com.

On many occasions I have read and heard statements such as: "Witnesses are not a subject that interests me", "I have nothing to do with witnesses in Hive", "with the little HP I have, it is not even worth my time".

I am convinced that this is a blunder or a clear sign of great ignorance of what witnesses are and what they mean.

To begin with it must be understood that it is these that guarantee the existence of Hive. As long as there is even one on, Hive exists. When the last one goes out, Hive is over.

It is true that they make money (in the form of HP) and the closer they are to the cap, the more they make. But keeping such a node active requires investment (of time, effort, money and more). Plus the people behind each of these teams usually perform different tasks for the development of the platform. For example, @blocktrades is the one who develops (among other things) the Hive.blog dapp. Likewise, the people at @steempeak are the ones who develop the Peakd.com interface.

Así hay los que se dedican a la seguridad, como @stoodkev, que es quien lleva el proyecto de @keychain, o a la lucha contra el abuso, como lo hacen @themarkymark y @guiltyparties, o a las curaciones como es caso de @ocd. Igualmente pasa con el equipo de @threespeak.

Con este último se da el caso que ellos están en la posición 20, son el último testigo del top 20, es decir, de la gobernanza y los más susceptibles (por esa misma razón) de quedar fuera de ese top. Que ellos sigan allí o no, son cosas que dependen del voto de cada uno de nosotros.

Para nosotros, los hispanohablantes, se suma otro factor a considerar. Hoy en día existen varios testigos hispanos que están desarrollando una labor principalmente enfocada en la comunidad de habla hispana. Como es el caso de @la-colmena, la cual llevo adelante yo, con el apoyo de @eugelys y @equipodelta. Está el testigo @aliento, @empo.witness y más recientemente, @dimeilaz. Y aunque cada uno tiene sus características particulares, todos son fundamentales para el avance de la comunidad de habla hispana. Pero sin el apoyo de los usuarios, no pueden ascender en el ranking y generar más ingresos, que en última instancia, serán más beneficio para todos los usuarios que publican contenido en español (Además de permitirles pagar los costos que implican mantener un nodo activo).

En la página https://peakd.com/me/witnesses, puedes ver la lista de testigos y si haces clic en el nombre de cada uno, podrás ver su blog en Hive. Allí puedes enterarte de qué hace cada uno de ellos, ver si está activo y aportando a la comunidad, o no...

Sin embargo, si consideras que no puedes, no tienes tiempo o no quieres dedicar tiempo a esa investigación para escoger tus testigos, existe la posibilidad de escoger un proxy.

Esto significa, que tú seleccionas a alguien, que tú sepas que va a estar pendiente de seleccionar a los mejores testigos y lo colocas como proxy. A partir de ese momento, tus votos seguirán los votos de esa persona.

Pero, aunque confíes en esa persona, lo ideal es que revises los testigos que él (o ella) tenga seleccionados. Porque se dan casos, como el de @theycallmedan, quien es un extraordinario Hiver y que hace una buena elección de testigos, pero en relación con los testigos de habla hispana, él solo le da su voto a @aliento. Los demás no están entre los suyos. Entonces, si lo seleccionas a él, le estarías negando tu voto a los otros testigos hispanos.

Seleccionar a los testigos es una actividad que no hay que estar haciendo todos los días. En principio es solo una vez al año. Así que puedes encontrar tiempo para hacerlo. En caso contrario, puedes seleccionar un proxy. Yo mismo hago esa tarea y si me colocas como tal, estarás votando por los testigos hispanos, además de proyectos que considero fundamentales. Hay algunos testigos del top 20 que no tienen mi voto, pero no por negarles el apoyo, sino para apoyar otros proyectos que no están en el top y que necesitan un impulso para ascender.

Lo que queda más claro de todo lo expuesto, es que debe ser una obligación para cada uno de nosotros, ejercer este derecho y hacer nuestra mejor selección para el óptimo desarrollo de la plataforma.

And although each one has their own particular characteristics, they are all fundamental to the advancement of the Spanish-speaking community. But without the support of users, they cannot move up the rankings and generate more revenue, which will ultimately benefit all users who publish content in Spanish (in addition to allowing them to pay the costs involved in maintaining an active node).

On the page https://peakd.com/me/witnesses, you can see the list of witnesses and if you click on the name of each one, you can see their blog on Hive. There you can find out what each one of them does, see if they are active and contributing to the community, or not....

However, if you consider that you can't, don't have time or don't want to dedicate time to this research to choose your witnesses, there is the possibility to choose a proxy.

This means, that you select someone, who you know is going to be watching to select the best witnesses and you place him/her as a proxy. From that moment on, your votes will follow the votes of that person.

But, even if you trust that person, ideally you should check the witnesses that he (or she) has selected. Because there are cases, such as @theycallmedan, who is an extraordinary Hiver and makes a good choice of witnesses, but in relation to the Spanish-speaking witnesses, he only gives his vote to @aliento. The others are not among his. So, if you select him, you would be denying your vote to the other Hispanic witnesses.

Selecting witnesses is an activity that you don't have to do every day. In principle it is only once a year. So you can find time to do it. Otherwise, you can select a proxy. I myself do that task and if you place me as such, you will be voting for Hispanic witnesses, as well as projects that I consider fundamental. There are some witnesses in the top 20 that do not have my vote, but not to deny them support, but to support other projects that are not in the top and need a boost to move up.

What is clearer from the above is that it should be an obligation for each of us to exercise this right and make our best selection for the optimal development of the platform.
