Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, nacido en San Juan de Puerto Rico en 1970. Heredero en los noventa de la tradición de cantantes como Julio Iglesias o José Luis Rodríguez "El Puma", aunque más acorde con las formas de las décadas ochenta y noventa. Presente en el álbum Duets II de homenaje a Frank Sinatra, posee una increíble popularidad en toda Sudamérica y entre la comunidad hispana en los Estados Unidos.

Tras su fichaje con Warner y comenzar una estrecha colaboración con Juan Carlos Calderón, en 1986 editó Soy como quiero ser, que le reportó ocho discos de oro y cinco de platino. En 1988 vio la luz Un hombre busca una mujer, cuya edición vino acompañada de una extensa gira por Sudamérica. El álbum se convirtió en todo un éxito, incluso en los Estados Unidos, donde Luis Miguel consiguió mantenerse durante más de un año en los primeros puestos de la lista latina del Billboard.

Su séptimo álbum, 20 años, se editó en 1990 y le condujo nuevamente a una gira por toda Sudamérica y a su presentación en el Madison Square Garden de Nueva York. Del disco Romance (1991), un trabajo de recreación de boleros clásicos, se vendieron más de seis millones copias en todo el mundo (cuatrocientos mil sólo en los primeros diez días) y se convirtió en disco de platino también en los Estados Unidos, siendo el primer larga duración en lengua castellana en conseguirlo. Luis Miguel fue el único artista latino invitado a participar en el álbum Barcelona Gold, conmemorativo de las Olimpiadas celebradas en la Ciudad Condal en 1992. Por entonces ya era el artista latino de mayor caché, interviniendo en el concierto para la recaudación de fondos para el Museo de los Niños de México.

En 1993, producido por el mismo Luis Miguel y con la presencia de David Foster (ganador de quince premios Grammy), se editó el álbum Aries (con más de dos millones de ventas) y volvió al Madison Square Garden, donde conseguiría un lleno absoluto, como ocurriera en los cuatro conciertos celebrados en el Universal Amphitheatre de Los Angeles y los diez consecutivos en el Auditorio Nacional de la capital azteca. Ese mismo año ganó el premio al Mejor vídeo musical internacional de la MTV. Aries obtuvo el Grammy al Mejor Álbum Latino de Pop.
En 1994 se publicó Segundo Romance, grabado en Los Angeles con la producción de Armando Manzanero, Kiko Cebrián y Juan Carlos Calderón, que rompió todos los records con sus dieciséis llenos en el Auditorio Nacional de México. El álbum entró directamente al puesto veintinueve de la lista de álbumes del Billboard, posición de entrada jamás alcanzada por un disco en castellano, alcanzando cifras de ventas en los Estados Unidos que le llevaron a convertirse en disco de oro.
