Monday Drumday: Speedy 16ths

Hey beatmakers!

Here I am with another work in progress on my drumming odyssey. This is yet another exercise from the Drumeo Method. This time it is about playing 16th note fills in a rock setting. I will freely admit that I need to practice the fills more and add some variety. During the tune it alternates between two different rhythms for the verse and chorus. The chorus one is tricky for me at the moment, but I am gradually getting the feel of it. This play though it still quite messy, but I do these videos as a log of my progress.

I should note that I used the backing track at 80% of normal speed as I could just not keep up otherwise. My hands do not move that fast. I may submit this video to the Drumeo experts to see what advice they give.

I really need to re-adjust my kit as I moved it to get at the corner of the room and it has shifted out of allignment. The drums are not really where I want them, so I need to take things off the frame and get it all properly level again. I just have not had time to do this as I was busy over the weekend.

My band could have a slot at a local festival next summer. That is exciting, but also makes me think I need some acoustic drums for gigs. It may be that the festival supply a kit, but there will be other times where I need my own. I am watching the second hand market, but I am after a particular thing. It needs to be portable and I do not really need a huge rock kit when the band is mostly acoustic. I just found the Compact Drums site that reviews some kits that may suit my needs. With drums you need it all to be sturdy as well as sounding good, so going for a cheap option may not work out, but there are so many being sold on Facebook Market and elsewhere. I may wait until after Christmas as it is possible people may have new drums and be looking to offload the old ones.

I just need to keep practicing to get the basics really solid. The band does not really require fancy drumming, but I want to have the option of throwing in some little touches to add variety.
