Paul Morphy was always a genius for chess, one day he simply decided not to play anymore but before that decision he left many great games that seemed to be played by some software of today, today I bring you the analysis of one of his most famous games and mainly because I think it is the most beautiful checkmate in history that in my opinion.
In 1858 Morphy attended an opera and during the intermission someone brought a chess set when they found out that he was among those present, two powerful men of the time, a couple of Dukes to be exact, challenged him to a game of two against one, to which Morphy accepted without problems.
Morphy with White and the Dukes with Black, the game in the opening poses a Phillindor defense in which Black nails White's f3 knight, threatening White's queen with x-rays.
A few moves later Morphy annihilates the Dukes' hopes of developing any game by sacrificing his own Queen knowing that the Dukes were obliged to capture her.
Vean cómo termina la partida.
See how the game ends.
You will say, "Ok, it's a mate with rook and bishop, we have already seen that ". I invite you to see the harmony with which Morphy plays the game and the most impressive thing is that it only lasted 16 moves.
