The truth is that, on many occasions, I can recognize philosophical information within Gustavo Cerati's lyrics, something that is not found on the internet, because it is always given a "common" interpretation based on terms of passionate love. The truth is that this artist is influenced by the work of Luis Alberto Spinetta, who was a philosophical idealist when composing, therefore, Cerati had a much deeper style of expression than what people usually attribute to him.

Talking a little more about the song. "Cactus" has a lyric with ideals of transmutation of pain and poison into something that influences in terms of healing the spirit. "Cactus softens my buds with its skin" refers to a direct brush with the plant, one born out of a desire to caress its soft skin, but this one has thorns. "It's a hundred years old it only blooms once, in your name" means that this cactus is blooming with the purpose of dedicating that bloom to someone, although that part of "in your name" is very present during the song, perhaps these virtues within the lyrics are dedicated to something higher.

The origin or the creative process of the song could be understood from a passionate love perspective, since there is also a part that says: "And when I look for you there is no place where you are not" can be interpreted as a state of falling in love. I can also quote the part (which was before the previous verse mentioned) which says: "And it has a poison more bitter than gall, just by invoking you I will turn it into honey", this part speaks precisely of the transformation of the unpleasant taste of the poison into a sweet state, which is produced through the alchemy of the energy of love or, rather, it is produced through the "invocation" of someone. This is when I ask myself: Who is he invoking? Perhaps he is referring to the invitation of a love that brings about calm, but whose love? It could be the love of mother earth, the love of God, or the love of a woman; I suppose all of these are valid, and all have the power to transform poison to medicine, bitter to sweet.

Already after all the above mentioned verses, comes a part that makes the subject of the song quite interesting: "And the dunes will be icebergs in the vertigo of eternity". In this subjective poetry I can only speculate in search of its meaning, perhaps it is about a process of transformation of the world, from a hot place to a very cold place. Or perhaps it refers to the small size of landscapes and the earth in comparison to the infinite sensation of eternity. It is interesting what it says regarding the "vertigo of eternity" believe me this is something that has happened to me in dreams, in which I find myself floating in space or on the edge of a planet, these events caused me a feeling of anguish similar to vertigo.

"And the birds will be trees in the identical of solitude". This may refer to the same process of transformation of the world, this time mentioning the sameness that lies in the state of solitude. We are all the same in solitude, solitude is an intrinsic individual process of existence, we are all alone in our path of learning and healing.

La verdad es que, en muchas ocasiones, puedo reconocer información filosófica dentro de las letras de Gustavo Cerati, cosa que en internet es algo que no se encuentra, debido a que siempre se le da una interpretación "común" basándose en términos de amor pasional. Lo cierto es que este artista tiene influencias de lo que fue el trabajo de Luis Alberto Spinetta, el cual era un idealista filosófico a la hora de componer, por ende, Cerati tenía un estilo de expresión mucho más profundo de lo que las personas suelen atribuirle.

Hablando un poco más de la canción. "Cactus" tiene una letra con ideales de trasmutación del dolor y el veneno hacia algo que influya en términos de sanción del espíritu. "Cactus suaviza mis yemas con su piel" se refiere a un roce directo con la planta, uno que nace del deseo de acariciar su suave piel, pero este tiene espinas. "Tiene cien años solo florece una vez, en tu nombre" quiere decir que este cactus está floreciendo con el propósito de dedicarle ese florecimiento a alguien, aunque esa parte de "en tu nombre" está muy presente durante la canción, tal vez estás virtudes dentro de la letra estén dedicadas a algo superior.

El origen o el proceso creativo de la canción podrían entenderse desde una perspectiva de amor pasional, ya que también hay una parte que dice: "Y cuando te busco no hay sitio en donde no estés" puede interpretarse como un estado de enamoramiento. También puedo citar la parte (que estaba antes del verso anterior mencionado) la cual dice: "Y tiene un veneno más amargo que la hiel, con solo invocarte voy a convertirlo en miel", esta parte habla precisamente de la transformación del desagradable sabor del veneno hacia un estado dulce, la cual se produce mediante la alquimia de la energía del amor o, más bien, se produce a través de la "invocación" de alguien. Es aquí cuando yo me pregunto: ¿A quien está invocando? Tal vez se refiere a la invitación de un amor que ocasiona calma, ¿Pero un amor de quién? Puede ser el amor de la madre tierra, el amor de Dios, o el amor de una mujer; supongo que todos estos son válidos, y todos tienen el poder de transformar el veneno a medicina, el amargo a dulce.

Ya después de todos los versos anteriormente mencionados, se viene una parte que pone el asunto de la canción bastan interesante: "Y los médanos serán témpanos en el vértigo de la eternidad". En esta poesía subjetiva solo puedo especular en busca de su significado, tal vez se trata de un proceso de transformación del mundo, de un lugar caliente a un lugar muy frío. O quizás se refiere al pequeño tamaño de paisajes y de la tierra en comparación con la infinita sensación de la eternidad. Es interesante lo que dice con respecto al "vértigo de la eternidad" créanme que esto es algo que me ha sucedido en sueños, en los cuales me encuentro flotando en el espacio o al borde de un planeta, estos sucesos me ocasionaban un sentimiento de angustia parecido al vértigo.

"Y los pájaros serán árboles en lo idéntico de la soledad". Esto puede referirse al mismo proceso de transformación del mundo, esta vez mencionando a la igualdad que yace en el estado de la soledad. Todos somos lo mismo en la soledad, la soledad es un proceso individual intrínseco de la existencia, todos estamos solos en nuestro camino de aprendizaje y sanación.
