If you are a lover of horror and suspense movies, you should not miss "The Pope's Exorcist" for anything in the world. One of the advantages of regularly visiting this community is that it allows me to get to know movies that otherwise I wouldn't know about and that's what happened with this film that was released exactly one month ago.

Si eres amante de las películas de terror y suspenso, no debes perderte por nada del mundo "El Exorcista del Papa". Una de las ventajas de visitar con regularidad esta comunidad es que me permite conocer películas que, de otra manera, no conocería y eso fue lo que pasó con este film que se estrenó hace exactamente un mes.

I had the opportunity to read some reviews from @roadstories and @anibalc, which piqued my curiosity. As I comment in the video, this is the kind of movie I like to watch. However, I must admit that I'm often disappointed by the lame endings, which ends up hurting the film overall.

One of the special things about this film is that it is based on real facts, it collects data that were captured by Father Gabriele Amorth during his years as chief exorcist of the Vatican and that for me is a plus that gives more validity to everything that happens in the feature film and is that certain scenarios that put anyone to think is it possible that all the bad things that the church did, were the fault of the devil?

Tuve la oportunidad de leer algunas reseñas de @roadstories y @anibalc, lo cual despertó mi curiosidad. Como comento en el video, este es el tipo de película que me gusta ver. Sin embargo, debo admitir que a menudo me decepcionan los finales poco convincentes, lo que termina afectando la película en general.

Una de las cosas especiales que tiene esta película es que está basada en hechos reales, recoge datos que fueron plasmados por el padre Gabriele Amorth durante sus años como exorcista en jefe del vaticano y eso para mi es un plus que le da más validez a todo lo que sucede en el largometraje y es que plantean ciertos escenarios que ponen a cualquiera a pensar ¿es posible que todas las cosas malas que hizo la iglesia, fueran culpa del demonio?

An exorcism with a backstory?

Most exorcism movies seem to be written with the same script, and only the actors are changed. And I say that because it's always the same thing: a demon possessing anyone just because it can, until someone else comes along who can get it out of there.

With this movie, we go off script because, although there is a possession, we discover that the demon has greater aspirations. This is what makes it interesting, as it shows us that evil is cunning and also that there are people who prefer to ignore its existence.

"The Pope's Exorcist" is a roller coaster of emotions from beginning to end, and they know how to combine it very well not only with the lighting and makeup, but also with the music, taking the viewer on an adrenaline trip that I honestly hadn't experienced in a movie of this type for a long time.

One thing I deeply regretted was having to watch the film in Spanish for scheduling reasons, which significantly influenced the perception of some moments in the film. Without spoilers, we all know that when a demon speaks, its voice is completely different from that of the possessed subject, and I was not able to fully experience this due to the fact that the dubbing is not always accurate with the voices.

¿Un exorcismo con un trasfondo?

La mayoría de las películas de exorcismos parecen estar escritas con el mismo guion, y solo se cambian los actores. Y lo digo porque siempre es lo mismo: un demonio que posee a cualquier persona solo porque puede, hasta que llega otra persona que lo puede hacer salir de allí.

Con esta película, nos salimos del guion porque, aunque hay una posesión, descubrimos que el demonio tiene aspiraciones mayores. Esto es lo que la hace interesante, ya que nos muestra que el mal es astuto y también que hay personas que prefieren ignorar su existencia.

"El Exorcista del Papa" es una montaña rusa de emociones de principio a fin, y saben combinarla muy bien no solo con la iluminación y el maquillaje, sino también con la música, llevando al espectador en un viaje de adrenalina que sinceramente hacía tiempo no experimentaba en una película de este tipo.

Algo que lamenté profundamente fue tener que ver la película en español por razones de horario, lo cual influyó significativamente en la percepción de algunos momentos de la película. Sin necesidad de hacer spoilers, todos sabemos que cuando habla un demonio, su voz es completamente diferente a la del sujeto poseído, y esto no lo pude experimentar plenamente debido a que los doblajes no siempre son acertados con las voces.

A deluxe camera game

Something I loved about this film is how the director plays with the cameras to capture our attention and keep us focused on what is happening. There are constantly close-up shots of faces or different objects in the room, creating an atmosphere of tension that you end up enjoying. Likewise, the lighting plays an important role that, combined with the camera games, gives a plus to this cinematic film. "The Pope's Exorcist" also boasts exceptional makeup that evolves as the film progresses.

Algo que me encantó de esta película es cómo el director juega con las cámaras para captar nuestra atención y mantenernos enfocados en lo que está sucediendo. Constantemente hay planos de acercamiento a rostros o a diferentes objetos en la habitación, creando un ambiente de tensión que al final uno termina disfrutando. De igual manera, la iluminación juega un papel importante que, combinada con los juegos de cámaras, otorga un plus a esta cinta cinematográfica. "El Exorcista del Papa" también hace gala de un maquillaje excepcional que evoluciona a medida que avanza la película.

A great actor for a great movie:

I think it was incredibly fitting to see Russell Crowe playing Father Gabriele Amorth. We are far from that svelte figure we remember from Gladiator; however, the magical essence of that actor continues and I think better than ever. He brings a unique charisma to the film, adapting very well to the role he played.

As I mentioned before, the film is based on real writings of Father Amorth's exorcisms, and something that characterizes the father is his good humor, an essence that Crowe can capture very well and bring to the screen. There were certain occasions in which moments of tension were cut by a phrase loaded with good humor, and this may seem a little strange for this type of film, but I assure you that it did not cut the harmony of the film, on the contrary, it made you have a moment to relax and continue with the plot.

Un gran actor para una gran película

Creo que fue increíblemente acertado ver a Russell Crowe interpretando al padre Gabriele Amorth. Estamos lejos de esa figura esbelta que recordamos de Gladiador; sin embargo, la esencia mágica de ese actor continúa y creo que mejor que nunca. Él aporta un carisma único a la película, adaptándose muy bien al papel que le tocó interpretar.

Como les comenté anteriormente, el film está basado en escritos reales de exorcismos del padre Amorth, y algo que caracteriza al padre es su buen humor, una esencia que Crowe puede captar muy bien y llevar a la pantalla. Hubo ciertas ocasiones en las que momentos de tensión eran cortados por una frase cargada de buen humor, y esto puede parecer algo extraño para este tipo de películas, pero les aseguro que no cortaba la armonía de la misma, por el contrario, hacía que tuvieras un momento para relajarte y continuar con la trama.

Undoubtedly, this movie was a genius, and maybe they will bring more sequels. I really hope there will be, because I would watch them all. I recommend all my friends in this community to go to the movies and don't miss this film. I am sure you will love it.

Sin duda, fue una genialidad esta película, y quizás traigan más secuelas. La verdad espero que las haya, porque yo las vería todas. Les recomiendo a todos mis amigos de esta comunidad que vayan al cine y no se pierdan este film. Estoy seguro de que les encantará.
