Being or not being the Ricardos | Review

¡Saludos, cinéfilos! Hoy vengo con algo a lo que ninguno de ustedes está acostumbrado a ver: hacer una reseña sin peinarme ni maquillarme. Jajajaja. Es broma (bueno, no tanto porque es cierto), la verdad es que son muy pocas las veces que veo una película y le hago una reseña negativa, pero aquí vamos, no tenía ganas de hablar en contra de Sorkin o de Nicole Kidman, pero aquí vamos. Disfruten el video y mi locura de domingo en la mañana.

Greetings, cinephiles! Today I come with something none of you are used to seeing: doing a review without doing my hair or makeup. Hahahaha. Just kidding (well, not so much because it's true), the truth is that there are very few times I watch a movie and give it a negative review, but here we go, I didn't feel like talking against Sorkin or Nicole Kidman, but here we go. Enjoy the video and my Sunday morning madness.

Esta película está dirigida y escrita por Aaron Sorkin, un ganador del Oscar por su trabajo como guionista y que ha hecho películas que he amado como El Juicio de los 7 de Chicago, Money Ball, Mollys Game y La Red Social, y fue esta la razón prícncipal por la que anoche a medianoche me apresuré a ver esta película y ver si estaba a la altura del guion de Adam McKay por Don´t look up, algo que hablaba hace unos días atrás con @jcrodriguez, y que en realidad fue la razón por la que vi esta antes que muchas otras películas que están nominadas (aunque ya he visto varias que he reseñado).

This film is directed and written by Aaron Sorkin, an Oscar-winning screenwriter who has made films I have loved such as The Trial of the Chicago 7, Money Ball, Mollys Game, and The Social Network, and this was the main reason why last night at midnight I rushed to see this film and see if it lived up to Adam McKay's screenplay for Don't look up, something I was talking about a few days ago with @jcrodriguez, and which was actually the reason I saw this one before many other films that are nominated (although I've already seen several that I've reviewed).

Nicole Kidman y Javier Bardem interpretan a Lucile Ball y Desi Arnaz, una pareja de la vida real que protagonizaron uno de los sitcoms más exitosos en la historia de la televisión "I love Lucy", tienen la semana más difícil de su carrera, en esa época estaban tras la caza de todos los militantes del partido comunista y descubrieron que Lucy se había inscrito muchos años atrás. Luego de 37 episodios exitosos, una noticia de tal magnitud pone a temblar hasta el más duro, así que los ejecutivos de la CBS estaban esperando el episodio siguiente para notar la receptividad del público. Además que el matrimonoio de Lucy y Des se iba desmoronando poco a poco y había alguna tensión dentro del plató con respecto a la parte creativa y asperezas dentro del cast.

Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem play Lucile Ball and Desi Arnaz, a real-life couple who starred in one of the most successful sitcoms in the history of television "I love Lucy", have the most difficult week of their career, at that time they were hunting for all the militants of the communist party and discovered that Lucy had signed up many years ago. After 37 successful episodes, news of such magnitude makes even the toughest shudder, so CBS executives were waiting for the next episode to notice the public's receptivity. Plus Lucy and Des' marriage was slowly falling apart and there was some tension onset regarding the creative side and acrimony within the cast.

No lo sé, a mí no me convenció la película, estuvo demasiado dispersa, le trataron de dar un toque documental que sinceramente estuvo extra, no lo necesitaba, además de los saltos temporales para mostrar como se conocieron Lucy y Des bastante atemporales con respecto a línea de la trama. A mí me perdían con tanto echar adelante y atrás pero sin llegar a calar por completo. Le faltó muchísimo para poder ser una película increíble, y pudo haberlo sido, las actuaciones por separado estuvieron muy bien, pero faltaba la química entre todo el cast para lograr una película coherente y cohesiva, en la que todos estuvieran conectados con un fin.

I don't know, I wasn't convinced by the movie, it was too scattered, they tried to give it a documentary touch that honestly was extra, it didn't need it, besides the time jumps to show how Lucy and Des met were quite timeless with respect to the plotline. To me, they lost me with so much back and forth but without getting to fully permeate. It lacked a lot to be an incredible movie, and it could have been, the performances separately were very good, but it lacked the chemistry between all the cast to achieve a coherent and cohesive movie, in which everyone was connected with a purpose.

Tal vez pudieramos tener la sorpresa de que alguno de los actores se ganara el gran premio esta noche en los Goldens, porque tal vez he sido un poco duro con Nicole, queue de seguro pasó horas viendo todas los capitulos de Lucy para powder imitar los movimientos y el tono de voz de Lucille, pero realmente lo dudo mucho. No creo que se lleve absolutamente nada, creo que hay mejores películas que merecen mucho más y lo lamento mucho por Sorkin, que debería tomarse un respiro y no intentar meter la inclusión de sopetón en cada cosa que hace, porque ante la inclusión hay que tener algo bien claro: contexto, si estamos hablando de los años 50, hay algo bien claro, machismo y supremacía blanca, retratalo bien para que las nuevas generaciones entiendan de una vez lo que pasaba y que sepan que era así, que no por que digan quiere decir que estuvieran luchando o hablando de eso, porque es poco probable que se hablara de eso.

Maybe we could have the surprise of one of the actors winning the big award tonight at the Goldens, because maybe I've been a little hard on Nicole, who surely spent hours watching all the episodes of Lucy to imitate Lucille's movements and tone of voice, but I really doubt it. I don't think it gets absolutely anything, I think there are better films that deserve much more and I feel sorry for Sorkin, who should take a break and not try to put inclusion out of the blue in every single thing he does because before inclusion you have to be clear about something: context, if we are talking about the '50s, there is something very clear, machismo and white supremacy, portray it well so that the new generations understand once and for all what was going on and that they know that it was like that, that not because they say means that they were fighting or talking about it, because it is unlikely that they were talking about it.

En fin, no todo son risas, y me molesta y decepciona mucho cuando uno de mis idolos cae, pero nadie es perfecto. Realmente espero ver mejores películas ESCRITAS por Aaron Sorkin.

Anyway, it's not all laughs for me, and I'm very disappointed when one of my idols falls, but nobody's perfect. I really hope to see better movies WRITTEN by Aaron Sorkin.

PD: Disculpen no estar ni peinada ni maquillada, pero es que no quería dejar pasar este día y cuando las ganas llegan hay que hacerlo.
