The Quarantine Concert | Eng-Esp | El Concierto de Cuarentena

Hello friends, today is #tbtThursday!. With the arrival of the new year and the holiday season there have been many moments to share memories and anecdotes this week at home and with friends I have frequented these days, and there is a common era that everyone remembers, either for better or for worse, and I am referring to the forties, specifically the year 2020, and just from this dark era for the world comes my memory of today...

¡Hola amigos, hoy es Jueves de #tbt!. Con la llegada del año nuevo y la temporada vacacional ha habido muchos momentos para compartir memorias y anécdotas esta semana en casa y con los amigos que he frecuentado estos días, y hay una época en común que todos recuerdan, ya sea para bien o para mal, y me refiero a la cuarentena, específicamente al año 2020, y justo de esta oscura era para el mundo viene mi recuerdo de hoy...

I am now in my third consecutive week of vacation, both from music and from Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, and although I have felt good with my family, I am beginning to miss my work and the adrenaline of covering new celestial musical repertoire. I think that's how all the singers of the choir felt in 2020 when we were locked up in our homes. We made a couple of remote videos with the audiovisual technicians of our headquarters, but one day in October our director made a call to dare to do a concert without an audience, mostly to be transmitted on the internet under many parameters of security and prevention, and here among us, it was one of our best concerts, although all the seats in the room were empty.

Ya estoy en mi tercera semana consecutiva de vacaciones, tanto de la música como de Caracas, la capital venezolana, y aunque me he sentido bien en familia comienzo a extrañar mi trabajo y la adrenalina de abarcar repertorio musical celestial nuevo. Así mismo creo que nos sentíamos todos los cantantes de la coral en el 2020 cuando estábamos encerrados en nuestras casas. Hicimos un par de videos a distancia con los técnicos audiovisuales de nuestra sede, pero un día de Octubre nuestra directora hizo un llamado para atrevernos a hacer un concierto sin público, más que todo para ser transmitido en internet bajo muchísimos parámetros de seguridad y prevención, y aquí entre nos, fue uno de nuestros mejores conciertos, aunque todas las butacas de la sala estaban vacías.

One of the characteristics of this meeting is that it was not one meeting, it was two.... The proof was the clear voices, the sopranos and altos. They met the last week of October to rehearse 4 days in a row and then on Friday they had a concert with a unique repertoire for women, then in November the men had the pleasure of repeating this format, four days to read and assemble the works and then sing and record them on Friday. Not all the women and men of the choir participated either, it was a small selection of people so that we could sing at a distance both in rehearsals and in the concert, but as you will see, we still got together to take pictures, and the best thing is that we smiled despite having our masks on 🤣🤣🤣

Una de las características de este encuentro es que no fue un encuentro, fueron dos... La prueba fue las voces claras, las sopranos y contraltos. Ellas se reunieron la última semana de Octubre para ensayar 4 días seguidos y luego el viernes tuvieron un concierto con un repertorio único para mujeres, luego en Noviembre los varones tuvimos el placer de repetir este formato, cuatro días para leer y ensamblar las obras y luego cantarlas y grabarlas el Viernes. Tampoco participaron todas las mujeres y hombres de la coral, era una selección pequeña de personas para que pudiéramos cantar distanciados tanto en los ensayos como en el concierto, pero como verán, igual nos juntábamos para tomarnos fotografías, y lo pero es que sonreíamos a pesar de tener el tapabocas puesto 🤣🤣🤣

This experience marked us as a group forever, and that is why I wanted to share this memory with the community. The love of art was demonstrated by the voluntary assistance of those of us who really live to make music, besides, our sound was sublime and at the same time very powerful because singing with the mask on represented a new vocal level that served to improve the sound projection and fight against what we already knew about the breathing technique. On the other hand, all the music was new and we only read the score in four days and we already had the level to perform them in concerts. I think this is because the quarantine helped us all to concentrate on personal and professional matters we had pending. I had time to recover from my operation, improve my music reading and even improve my musical content at the Hive Open Mic, I don't think I missed a day on that occasion, and although sometimes while playing we say we want another long time off, I think we all agree that we don't want to repeat such a dark era for humanity as 2020.

Esta experiencia nos marcó como agrupación para siempre, y por eso quise compartir este recuerdo en la comunidad. El amor al arte quedó demostrado con la asistencia voluntaria de quienes realmente vivimos para hacer música, además, nuestro sonido fue sublime y a la vez muy potente porque cantar con el tapabocas puesto representaba un nuevo nivel vocal que sirvió para mejorar la proyección del sonido y luchar contra lo que ya conocíamos sobre la técnica de respiración. Por otra parte, toda la música era nueva y solo leímos la partitura en cuatro días y ya teníamos el nivel de presentarlas en conciertos. Creo que esto se debe a que la cuarentena ayudó a que todos nos concentráramos en asuntos personales y profesionales que teníamos pendientes. Yo tuve tiempo de recuperarme de mi operación, mejorar mi lectura musical y hasta de mejorar mi contenido musical en el Hive Open Mic, creo que no perdí ni un día en esa ocasión, y aunque a veces jugando decimos que queremos otro tiempo largo de descanso, creo que todos estamos de acuerdo en que no queremos repetir una era tan oscura para la humanidad como el 2020.
