HIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Week 42, 3rd Round (ENG-ESP): "Murder on the Dancefloor" feat. the Sewer-pipe!

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Zone Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Welcome to Week 43 / Round 2 of the Hive Music Festival!

After doing only original songs for the first 22 weeks, I started playing covers after running out of original material. But I thought I would make a special effort for my HMF friends and challenge myself like this: My main instruments are guitar and harmonicas: What if I had to ensure that for every cover I do for the Hive Music Festival over the next few weeks, that I must use a different instrument as well, to test my creativity and ability to learn and play with different new sounds?

And so – this week is the 20th and final instalment of my series of HMF Entries called “Wacky Instrument of the Week”. Next week, I will challenge myself in another way for the Hive Music Festival!

Now it is time for the 20th and final “Instrument of the Week” – The sewer pipe!

Inspired by the “boomwhacker”, I have realised that you can get different tones out of cutting sewer pipe to different lengths (with a hacksaw – harder to cut round pipe straight than I expected! Hahaha!). You can then lower the octave of that tone by putting a cap on one end, which also gives you something nice to hit!

Let me use a loop pedal, and 4 different sewer pipe sections, along with some other favourite previous musical instruments of the week, to create a looped performance of a classic dance track, “Murder on the Dance Floop” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor (2001)!

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la comunidad de Music Zone. ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! ¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 43 / Ronda 2 del Hive Music Festival!

Después de hacer solo canciones originales durante las primeras 22 semanas, comencé a tocar versiones después de quedarme sin material original. Pero pensé en hacer un esfuerzo especial por mis amigos de HMF y desafiarme así: Mis instrumentos principales son la guitarra y las armónicas: ¿Qué pasaría si tuviera que asegurarme de que por cada versión que haga para el Hive Music Festival durante las próximas semanas, que también debo usar un instrumento diferente, para probar mi creatividad y habilidad para aprender y tocar con diferentes sonidos nuevos?

Ahora es el momento del vigésimo y último "Instrumento de la semana": ¡la tubería de alcantarillado!

Inspirándome en el "boomwhacker", me he dado cuenta de que puedes obtener diferentes tonos cortando tuberías de alcantarillado en diferentes longitudes (con una sierra para metales: ¡más difícil de cortar recta una tubería redonda de lo que esperaba! ¡Jajaja!). Luego puedes bajar la octava de ese tono poniendo un límite en un extremo, ¡lo que también te da algo agradable para golpear!

Permítanme usar un pedal de bucle y 4 secciones diferentes de tuberías de alcantarillado, junto con algunos otros instrumentos musicales anteriores favoritos de la semana, para crear una interpretación en bucle de una pista de baile clásica, "Murder on the Dance Floop" de Sophie Ellis-Bextor ( 2001)!
