HIVE MUSIC FESTIVAL Week 65 Second Round (ENG-ESP): "Dreams" Fleetwood Mac / The Corrs

Hello everybody on HIVE, and especially the Music Zone Community. My name is Jasper and I'm writing (and singing) to you from Cape Town in South Africa! Welcome to Week 65 / Round 2 of the Hive Music Festival!

Let’s continue the theme I thought of for weeks 64 to 66 (and maybe beyond), where I tackle some songs that were originally released by one artist or band, but also have a very successful famous cover version released by another band or artist. I can then show you both versions and you let me know which one you prefer!

Last week I did “King of Pain” originally by Sting & the Police, but also wonderfully covered in a more acoustic style by Alanis Morissette towards the end of her MTV Unplugged concert in 1999!

In my honest opinion, I’m going to give the award to the COVER (believe it or not) – I think the acoustic arrangement and the soul in Alanis Morissette’s voice actually go better with the depth of the lyrics, compared to how much the original chops and changes with musical sounds… is that blasphemy? Hahaha!

Today I would like to tackle “Dreams” originally by Fleetwood Mac. According to (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreams_(Fleetwood_Mac_song)) – the band Fleetwood Mac was going through emotional problems while they were recording the “Rumours” album that this song features on. The writer and singer Stevie Nicks was in the process of having her long-term relationship with guitarist Lynsey Buckingham coming to an end. In the song, she says she can’t hold onto him against his will, but also warns him to think very carefully, because women come and go, but he might be plagued by loneliness and the thoughts of what he had lost – that she is special…

Strangely, other band members were also going through their relationships ending at the time as well. Here is the original version:

Now the honest truth is that I was a young teenager in the early 2000s, and so the first time I heard this classic song was the cover by the Irish band The Corrs. This was a family band made up of three beautiful sisters and a brother, and they enjoyed adding traditional Irish music elements, like pennywhistle and fiddle, to their music. Here is their cover:

I think I land up following their chord structure when I cover the song, and in typical Jasper fashion, I go a bit upbeat to emphasize a simple beat because I don’t have a drummer! Hahaha!

So! Which one do you prefer? The original by Fleetwood Mac or the cover by The Corrs?

Hola a todos en HIVE, y especialmente a la comunidad Music Zone. ¡Mi nombre es Jasper y les escribo (y canto) desde Ciudad del Cabo en Sudáfrica! ¡Bienvenidos a la Semana 65/Ronda 2 del Hive Music Festival!

Continuaremos con el tema que pensé durante las semanas 64 a 66 (y tal vez más allá), donde abordo algunas canciones que fueron lanzadas originalmente por un artista o banda, pero que también tienen una versión famosa y muy exitosa lanzada por otra banda o artista. ¡Entonces puedo mostrarte ambas versiones y tú me cuentas cuál prefieres!

La semana pasada hice “King of Pain” originalmente de Sting & the Police, ¡pero también lo versioné maravillosamente en un estilo más acústico por Alanis Morissette hacia el final de su concierto MTV Unplugged en 1999!

En mi sincera opinión, le voy a dar el premio a la PORTADA (lo creas o no). Creo que el arreglo acústico y el alma en la voz de Alanis Morissette realmente van mejor con la profundidad de la letra, en comparación con lo mucho que la toques originales y cambios con sonidos musicales… ¿eso es una blasfemia? ¡Jajaja!
