Hola amigos de Hive, como algunos de ustedes ya sabrán soy estudiante de Teatro en la Fundación Bordes, lo cual es una gran experiencia para mí, pues explorar nuestra corporalidad, nuestras capacidades histriónicas es algo que sin duda se disfruta. Una de las dinámicas más divertidas es la improvisación, pues allí podemos crear y sentirnos más libres que cuando lo hacemos para una obra específica, y que además sirve para identificar cosas que hacemos bien y otras que no.

Hello friends of Hive, as some of you may already know, I am a student of Theater at the Bordes Foundation, which is a great experience for me, because exploring our corporeality, our histrionic abilities is something that is certainly enjoyable. One of the most fun dynamics is improvisation, because there we can create and feel freer than when we do it for a specific play, and it also serves to identify things that we do well and others that we do not.

Nuestra profesora @alexeyha86 nos dio 10 minutos a sus 5 estudiantes para preparar una improvisación, empezamos a lanzar ideas pero nada parecía convencernos, de pronto alguien sugirió que hiciéramos una sesión espiritista para invocar a alguna entidad. Sin embargo, nos pareció un poco oscuro, son cosas que no deberían tomarse a la ligera por más que se tratase de un juego. No todos estaban convencidos, de manera que decidimos darle un toque de humor, para que no resultase tan oscuro.

Our teacher @alexeyha86 gave us 10 minutes to her 5 students to prepare an improvisation, we started to throw ideas but nothing seemed to convince us, suddenly someone suggested that we do a séance to invoke some entity. However, it seemed a bit dark to us, these are things that should not be taken lightly, even if it was a game. Not everyone was convinced, so we decided to give it a touch of humor, so it wouldn't be so dark.

Mi compañera María Jesús y yo seriamos unos estafadores, en busca gente incauta ofreciéndoles adivinar el futuro o contactar con algún ser querido, ella sería la bruja o espiritista, y o sería un especie de médium por el cual aquel ser querido podría comunicarse.

My partner Maria Jesus and I would be scammers, looking for unsuspecting people offering them fortune telling or contact with a loved one, she would be the witch or spiritualist, and I would be a kind of medium through which that loved one could communicate.

La improvisación iniciaba con mi amiga en escena, sentada en su mesa de trabajo o más bien de estafa, pronto yo entraba por la puerta diciéndole que había encontrado una familia incauta, una madre de dos jóvenes, quien buscaba comunicarse con su esposo muerto, y a quien yo había pedido 100 dólares por la sesión, y que finalmente íbamos a poder comer por que no habíamos podido hacer dinero recientemente.

The improvisation began with my friend on stage, sitting at her work or rather con table, soon I was walking in the door telling her that I had found an unsuspecting family, a mother of two, who was looking to communicate with her dead husband, and whom I had asked for $100 for the session, and that we were finally going to be able to eat because we hadn't been able to make any money recently.

Adoptamos un acento cubano, pues existe un estereotipo de que en ese país se práctica bastante la brujería. Abrí la puerta a la familia incauta, quienes se sentaron alrededor de la mesa, pronto la espiritista, empezó a preguntarles cosas y a invocar a su familiar muerto, mientras tanto yo les pedía que cerraran los ojos, para poder mover la mesa con mis manos y simular una manifestación paranormal.

We adopted a Cuban accent, as there is a stereotype that witchcraft is practiced in that country. I opened the door to the unwary family, who sat around the table, soon the spiritualist began to ask them questions and invoke their dead relative, while I asked them to close their eyes, so I could move the table with my hands and simulate a paranormal manifestation.

Así mi personaje empezó a actuar como si estuviese poseído por el familiar fallecido, y hablar con ellos, aunque las respuestas no parecían convencerlos. Uno de los jóvenes, al darse cuenta de que se trataba de una estafa, sacó dos pistolas para pedir la devolución del dinero. Yo intenté tomar su arma sin éxito y recibí un disparo, mientras tanto los demás miembros de la familia salían corriendo del lugar, y la espiritista era amenazada de muerte si no devolvía el dinero, finalmente la espiritista huye y la familia pierde el dinero y yo en el suelo asesinado por el chico.

So my character began to act as if possessed by the deceased relative, and talk to them, although the answers did not seem to convince them. One of the young men, realizing that this was a scam, pulled out two guns to demand the money back. I tried to take his gun without success and was shot, meanwhile the other members of the family ran out of the place, and the spiritualist was threatened with death if she did not return the money, finally the spiritualist ran away and the family lost the money and I on the floor killed by the boy.

Esta improvisación fue bastante divertida, al ver algunos videos pude notar algunas cosas en las que tenemos que trabajar, en mi caso principalmente la proyección de la voz, sobre todo al simular una voz distinta o ultratumba, pues poco se me oía o se me entendía. Otra el hecho de darle la espalda al público, y es que esta es una regla del teatro, aun cuando te dirijas a un persona que esta detrás de ti, no deberías dar la espalda al público. De igual forma, faltó conectar más con las emociones, aunque fuese una comedia, debía haber allí temor, ira, incertidumbre.

This improvisation was quite funny, watching some videos I could notice some things that we have to work on, in my case mainly the projection of the voice, especially when simulating a different voice or ultratumba, because I could hardly be heard or understood. Another was the fact of turning your back to the audience, and this is a rule of theater, even when you address a person behind you, you should not turn your back to the audience. Likewise, I failed to connect more with the emotions, even if it was a comedy, there should have been fear, anger, uncertainty.

Siempre es bueno poder observarse durante estos ejercicios, y así poder trabajar en nuestros deficiencias, y fortalecer nuestros aciertos.

It is always good to be able to observe ourselves during these exercises, so that we can work on our deficiencies and strengthen our successes.
