[Rose] Sometimes, when forced into social settings,
I feel the urge to withdraw
Hide within the cave upon the cliff
Wondering
What if

And within the darkness
I watch the shadows dance across the walls
Created by the ever setting sun
When will my task, my mission, my journey
Be done
Finished, this race I'm ever running
My stamina-- the endurance required-- waning

Like the moon in the sky
Shifting with time
And I wonder why

Why am I
Just another being
Breathing
Speaking
Feeling
What is this?

Come here for another kiss
Calm my nervousness
With the feel of your lips brushing mine
Quiet the churning thoughts inside
Stop the wild ride
Snide comments, inner asides
Softening the blows to my pride
Reducing my desire to hide

I am here
In this moment
Free to be me
We take the good with the bad
Create a future I never had
In the past, falling behind
I don't mind
The twisting labyrinth, new pathways to find
As I rewire, reconfigure the algorithms, associations
Smile gently, guiding the tears into the well
The pain sharp within my side
A blade I know too well

Every rose has her thorns
