Hello there, my fellow musicians and music lovers!

It came as a surprise winning the previous edition, but all that hard work paid its dividends!

We are back on the stage of the Hive Music Festival for its 40th week, round 1. Today, I bring you a song I did in collaboration with my dear, @zullyscott a while ago, but now as a soloist.

I have talked about this genre of music. Tonadas are often sad in mood. However, they are songs that llaneros (people from the Venezuelan plains) sing while they're at work. That the origin of the whole genre of music. There's no common time measure or key for these tunes as they are composed while keeping up with the rhythm of a day's job.

This particular one was composed by Simón Díaz, which is regarded as the savior of Tonadas in Venezuela. When the oil boom started and workers started to move from the agricultural fields to work on the oil excavations and camps, this genre of music almost disappeared. This movement known in Venezuelan History as El éxodo campesino, created a whole genre of literature and tons of problems for the economy.

And this song Sabana tells the story about those llaneros that left the plains. Sabana is a word that is often use to refer to this long extensions of plains. It's lyrics are a sad farewell to these lands as the people go far from it looking for opportunities. It is also the kind of song a lot of our people outside the country would love to hear and make even shed some tears.

My favorite version of this song isn't even online. It was recorded as a Duet between Luz Marina and Simón Díaz (doing 1st and 2nd voice respectively). What the cuatro that's following the singing does is just amazing. Hopefully one day, someone will upload that song to the web or maybe it is in Spotify or some other platform.

Here's my take on the song using some of the resources at my grasp and level to make it feel as sad as a can. I hope you enjoy this performance.
