Hive Music Festival | Week 61, round 1 | ¿Dónde está San Nicolás? [Soloist Cover] 🎶🎶🎶

Christmas is just around the corner and after getting a new star for the instrumental category of the Hive Music Festival, we're back for week 61. For this round, I wanted to start with Christmas music. There are different types of this music in Venezuela. But there are two names that fall under the same category but vary in content of their lyrics. We have carols, which are usually related to Christianity; then, we have "aguinaldos", which are the popular ones.

This aguinaldo, titled "¿Dónde está San Nicolás?" (Where's Santa Claus?) I brought you today has some dubious origin, but as far as I know it's from Pedro Lacorte, famous composer of the group Rondalla Venezolana. Some other pages attribute it to Iván Pérez Rossi from the group Serenata Guayanesa. Either of those could be the composer. It's an interesting piece talking about the differences in social classes and how children enjoy Christmas.

Of course, I brought a soloist arrangement, but you can listen to the original recording by clicking here. The melody is quite simple, but it doesn't impact the beauty of the song. Hopefully, I did a good job trying to create my own version.

Estamos de regreso después de sumar otra estrella entre los galardones de este festival en su categoría instrumental. Para esta semana 61, les traigo música navideña venezolana. Existen varios tipos de esta música, pero hay dos que se podrían clasificar como la misma música, pero con contenido diferente. Me refiero a los villancicos, de temas religiosos y los aguinaldos, de temas populares.

El aguinaldo que les traigo se titula "¿Dónde está San Nicolás?" y su autoría es algo confusa. Los dos nombres que figuran como compositor son Pedro Lacorte, compositor del grupo Rondalla Venezolana. El segundo es Iván Pérez Rossi del grupo Serenata Guayanesa. Cualquiera de ellos dos podría ser. Esta canción habla sobre como disfrutan las navidades los niños de acuerdo a su clase social.

Aquí les traje un arreglo solista de esta canción navideña tratando de crear una versión un poco diferente al esquema original de la pieza. Si quieren escuchar la grabación de Serenata Guayanesa, pueden dar click aquí y así disfrutan la letra. La melodía simple del tema no le resta belleza musical.
