Hive Music Festival | Week 16, Round 1 | Something (Venezuelan Cuatro Soloist Cover) 🎵🎶

Buen día colegas músicos y amates de la música. Estamos de regreso en el escenario del Hive Music Festival para presentar un cover de una canción que me atrapó desde la primera vez que la escuché. Me refiero a Something de George Harrison. Si el nombre de les hace conocido es porque este fue un miembro de la famosa banda británica "The Beatles".

La semana pasada me atrapó un reel de una de esas tantas mujeres talentosas que tocan el ukelele por Instagram. Estaba tocando un arreglo muy bello de esta canción. La tuve que buscar para escucharla mejor y la letra y ritmo me atraparon. Para mí fortuna, tengo dos libros de arreglos para piano y cifrados de guitarras donde se encuentran varias de las canciones de "The Beatles". Así que seguro me escucharán tocando otras.

Esto es otro de esos ejemplos de que las limitaciones de un instrumento están impuestas por el ejecutante. Sacar al cuatro venezolano de su entorno tradicional no perjudica su sonido. Es una labor que enriquece el oído y la técnica del músico.

Además, es una tarea muy entretenida buscar la manera de tocar estás canciones con la afinación tradicional. También es muy difícil. Sin embargo, son estos los retos que nos impulsan a mejorar en el arte.

Una cosa que me gustaría aclarar es que no estoy tocando la canción en su tono original. Se hizo una rearmonización para tocarla en este instrumento y se subió un tono. La original está en Do mayor y hace un cambio a La mayor en la estrofa. En este arreglo, comienza en Re mayor y se pasa a Sí mayor. Sin más por agregar, espero que esté cover sea de su agrado.

"Something" cover 🎶🎵

Hi there my fellow musicians and music lovers. We are back at the stage of the Hive Music Festival to perform a cover of song that caught me by surprise last week. I'm talking about Something by George Harrison. If that name rings a bell, it's because I'm taking about a member of the British band, The Beatles.

As I was researching reels on Instagram, I was caught by one of the talented women who play the ukulele on that social media. She played an arrangement of this song and I had to go and look for it to have a better understanding of the whole piece. It's lyrics and rhythm got etched in my mind. Fortunately, I have some books with piano and guitar arrangements for a lot of the songs by The Beatles. Maybe you'll listen to me playing others.

This is an example of how the limitations of an instrument fall under what is imposed by a musician. Taking the Venezuelan Cuatro out it's traditional setting helps nourish ears and technique.

Beisdes, figuring out how to play these songs on the traditional tuning is an interesting task; also, very complex. However, these are the challenges that help us grow as artists.

I'd like to point out one last thing. I'm playing a reharmonization of this song. The original starts in C major and goes to A major in the verse. Here, I'm starting at D major, then going to B major. I took the whole song a went up a whole step up. That should let your ears understand if it sounds different. With no mor to say, I hope you find my performance interesting.
