In 2005, my band, Los Cañoneros, was stagnant and there were a number of ideas for renewal that I wanted to implement, but the outlook was not very encouraging and for that very reason I had been postponing them.

In those days I met a friend, musician, singer and composer, owner of a studio where I had made some recordings before, José Alfonso Quiñones, and it was him who proposed me to use his studio to record an album of the group and that I would pay him when I had sold the album.

The first thing I did was to sit down and think about the concept of the record and I decided that we would sing to the nights of Caracas. By that time I had the idea of taking up an arrangement I had started to do years before of a Jazz standard, How high the Moon, and there was also a song that my sister, @helyorsini, had composed years before and we had recorded it for another project that did not come out and that could well adapt to the style of the group, entitled "Luna mía" (My Moon). So, beyond " the night", I thought I'd focus on the moon of the night. So I sat down and wrote this song, which was the one that gave the album its title: "Luna sobre el valle" (Moon over the valley) and which contained the whole concept of the album.

That conversation with my friend José Alfonso and the birth of this song were the two elements that became the "motivation to achieve" and two years later the album was released privately and after two more years, it was released to the public.

I originally wrote the song as Venezuelan Merengue. but in 2014, for my mother's 90th birthday, who wanted to hear me singing salsa, I made her a cover that I played on that occasion.

Although today I come alone with the accompaniment of the cuatro, I wanted to sing it with salsa rhythm and this is my participation for the Hive Open Mic, week 91. And let this opportunity also serve to celebrate friendship and gratitude to friends who give their all to support one in our lives.

En el año 2005, mi grupo, Los Cañoneros, se encontraba estancado y habían una cantidad de ideas de renovación que yo quería implementar, pero el panorama no era muy alentador y por esa misma razón las había estado posponiendo.

En esos días me encontré un amigo, músico, cantante y compositor, dueño de un estudio en el que yo había hecho unas grabaciones con anterioridad, José Alfonso Quiñones, y fue él quien me propuso que usar su estudio para grabar un disco del grupo y que le pagara cuando hubiera vendido el disco.

Lo primero que hice fue sentarme a pensar en el concepto del disco y decidí que le cantaríamos a las noches de Caracas. Ya para ese momento yo tenía la idea de retomar un arreglo que había empezado a hacer años antes de un estándar del Jazz, How high the Moon (Cuan alta está la luna) y había también una canción que había compuesto mi hermana, @helyorsini, años antes y la habíamos grabado para otro proyecto que no salió a la luz y que bien podía adaptarse al estilo del grupo. Así que, más allá de "la noche", pensé en centrarnos en la luna de la noche. Así que me senté y escribí esta canción, que fue la que le dio título al disco: "Luna sobre el valle" y que encerraba en sí todo el concepto del disco.

Esa conversación con mi amigo José Alfonso y el nacimiento de esta canción fueron los dos elementos que se convirtieron en la "motivación para lograr" y dos años más tarde se editó el disco a nivel privado y después de dos años más, salió a la venta pública.

Originalmente la canción la escribí como Merengue Venezolano. pero en 2014, para el cumpleaños 90 de mi madre, quien quería escucharme cantando salsa, le hice una versión que toqué en aquella oportunidad.

Aunque hoy vengo solo con el acompañamiento del cuatro, quise cantarla con ritmo salsero y esta es mi participación para el Hive Open Mic, semana 91. Y sirva esta oportunidad también parra celebrar la amistad y el agradecimiento a los amigos que dan el todo por apoyarlo a uno en nuestras vidas.
