Con mucha frecuencia se ve como las personas presentan una versión falsa o idealizada de sí mismas, es lo que yo llamo la cultura de la simulación. Esto no es una cosa nueva de las redes sociales, antes las personas salían en la sección de farándula de una revista o un periódico presumiendo ostentación, lujo, preeminencia y status. Hoy vemos como personas se exceden al editar fotos, usar filtros y solo compartir experiencias positivas. Cuando pasamos del mundo virtual al mundo real podemos sentirnos defraudados, y eso dificulta la construcción de relaciones genuinas. No hay nada mejor que ser auténtico y genuino, debemos amarnos a pesar de nuestras imperfecciones, y mostrarnos como verdaderamente somos. Ahora, esto no quiere decir que uno debe solo compartir cosas positivas, o enfocarse en escribir todo lo malo que le sucede. Este puede ser un medio para hacer catarsis y compartir nuestras luchas personales. Hace unos años me comentaba un amigo, que debemos compartir y visibilizar nuestros logros. Muchas veces se muestra más lo malo que lo bueno. Es importante no compararse con los demás. Todo el mundo tiene su propio proceso. ¿Usas las redes sociales para conectarte con amigos y familiares, o lo estás usando para compararte con los demás? ¿Estás compartiendo solo experiencias positivas, o también estás compartiendo tus luchas?

Very often it is seen how people present a false or idealized version of themselves, it is what I call the culture of simulation. This is not a new thing in social networks before people appeared in the entertainment section of a magazine or a newspaper showing off ostentation, luxury, preeminence, and status. Today we see how people go too far when editing photos, using filters, and only sharing positive experiences. When we go from the virtual world to the real world we can feel let down, and that makes it challenging to build genuine relationships. There is nothing better than being authentic and genuine, we must love each other despite our imperfections, and show ourselves as we truly are. Now, this does not mean that one should only share positive things, or focus on writing down everything bad that happens to them. This can be a means to catharsis and share our struggles. A few years ago a friend told me that we should share and make our achievements visible. Many times the bad is shown more than the good. It is important not to compare yourself with others. Everyone has their own process. Do you use social media to connect with friends and family, or are you using it to compare yourself to others? Are you sharing only positive experiences, or are you also sharing your struggles?

Hoy comparto mi interpretación con la trompeta de una balada llamada «Pretend» de Nat King Cole. Es una canción romántica compuesta por Johnny Mercer y Harold Arlen. Al escuchar la pieza se siente como un Bolero con un compás 4/4 y un tempo moderado. Se encuentra en Do Mayor. La letra habla sobre pretender ser feliz incluso cuando te sientes triste. Como dice el dicho popular “Al mal tiempo, buena cara”. La felicidad llama a la felicidad, no se puede invocar el bien haciendo lo malo. En este caso, no es cuestión de vanidad, sino de usar los poderes de la imaginación para ver el vaso medio lleno, y no ver el vaso medio vacío en tiempos difíciles.

Today, I'm sharing my trumpet rendition of a ballad called "Pretend" by Nat King Cole. It is a romantic song composed by Johnny Mercer and Harold Arlen. Listening to the piece it feels like a Bolero with a 4/4 time signature and a moderate tempo. It is in C Major. The lyrics talk about pretending to be happy even when you feel sad. As the popular saying goes "Bad weather, good face". Happiness calls for happiness, you cannot invoke good by doing bad. In this case, it is not a question of vanity, but of using the powers of the imagination to see the glass half full, and not see the glass half empty in difficult times.
