¡Hey, 3speakers! ¿Qué tal están? El día de hoy he decidido hacer un aporte a la grandiosa comunidad de músicos de Hive. En esta ocasión se trata de un cover de la canción My Funny Valentine, aparecida en el año 1937 en la ciudad de Nueva York. La melodía fue compuesta Richard Rodgers y la letra fue escrita por Lorenz Hart, ambos estadounidenses. Esta canción se convirtió en un estándar de Jazz y ha sido interpretada por muchos artistas de renombre a nivel mundial.

Una de las versiones más conocidas es la que fue interpretada por el trompetista y cantante Chet Baker, debido a lo cual se suele relacionar esta obra musical con este artista. Para realizar este cover me he basado en la versión que apareció en el disco Chet Baker Sings, lanzado en 1953.

El jazz es un género musical conocido por su usar acordes con tensiones, generando una sonoridad disonante que le sienta muy bien y le da ese colorido único propio de este género. En el caso de My Funny Valentine, le aporta todo ese dramatismo trágico que el tema a merita.

Por supuesto, el Jazz es mucho más que acordes con tensiones y armonía complicada, es todo un lenguaje que se estudia a profundidad y se necesitan años para poder aprender todo lo necesario. Musicalidad, armonía enriquecida, solos improvisados, arreglos exquisitos, entre otras tantas cosas rodean este género.

Con este aporte espero aproximar un poco a aquellos que todavía no están familiarizados con el sonido del Jazz y darles a entender que, aunque existen muchos músicos virtuosos dentro del Jazz, no es necesario ser virtuoso para ejecutar este género, como lo demostró el propio Chet Baker en sus canciones. Por supuesto, en futuros aportes volveré al Jazz, ya sea cantando, improvisando o incluso hablando sobre su lenguaje y su armonía.

Hey, 3speakers! How are you? Today I decided to make a contribution to the great community of Hive musicians. This time it's a cover of the song My Funny Valentine, which appeared in 1937 in New York City. The melody was composed by Richard Rodgers and the lyrics were written by Lorenz Hart, both Americans. This song became a Jazz standard and has been interpreted by many renowned artists worldwide.

One of the best known versions is the one performed by the trumpeter and singer Chet Baker, due to which this musical work is usually related to this artist. To make this cover I have based myself on the version that appeared in the album Chet Baker Sings, released in 1953.

Jazz is a musical genre known for its use of strained chords, generating a dissonant sonority that suits it very well and gives it that unique coloring typical of this genre. In the case of My Funny Valentine, it brings all the tragic drama that the theme deserves.

Of course, Jazz is much more than chords with tensions and complicated harmony, it is a language that is studied in depth and it takes years to learn everything you need. Musicality, enriched harmony, improvised solos, exquisite arrangements, among many other things surround this genre.

With this contribution I hope to bring a little closer to those who are not yet familiar with the sound of Jazz and make them understand that, although there are many virtuoso musicians within Jazz, it is not necessary to be virtuoso to execute this genre, as demonstrated by Chet Baker himself in his songs. Of course, in future contributions I will return to Jazz, either singing, improvising or even talking about its language and harmony.
