    Scientifically speaking, a human cell has 46 chromosomes of which half came from the father and mother respectively.

    It was through Mary that God sent Jesus into the world. From the human angle, the lineage of Jesus is through Mary. One's lineage could be through the father or mother.

    And there's no evidence in the Bible to suggest that Mary is not a decendant of David.
