It is not proper for either a husband or wife to leave the dwelling place. They're expected to live together according to the Bible. Apostle Peter advised husbands to live with their wives, and give them honour as unto the weaker vessels (1Peter 3:7).
This is really a command, that husbands should give honour to their wives. The wife being described as a weaker vessel means that she needs protection.
Eph. 5:23 - 25 states that the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the Church. This they're together as one. It further admonished the husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for it.
Christ did not leave the Church as stated in Matthew 28:20 where Jesus Christ told the disciples, "... I am with you always even into the end of the world..."
But 1Cor. 7:5 foresees a situation yan unbelieving partner may decide to depart from the marriage union. It then says that in such a case, a brother or sister is not under bondage. This means that if the unbeliever decides to leave first, then the believer is free.
