El solo que no podía faltar cuando de Metallica se habla!
Me dedique estos últimos días a aprender unos solos que hicieron vibrar a más de uno, se trata de los solos del tema "Sad but true" del Black Album, quinto album de Metallica que fue lanzado en 1991.

A pesar que este álbum tiene temas muy buenos que pegaron muchísimo, siempre he pensado que para la banda este era el tema principal del álbum, por la razón siguiente:
En el segundo , tercero y cuarto álbum de la banda el segundo tema siempre era el más representativo del disco y siempre llevaban el mismo nombre, "Ride the Lightning", "Master of puppets" y "And justice for all", todos caracterizados por ser temas de alta complejidad y sobre todo muy largos llegando a alcanzar 6:36 min, 8:38 min y 9:47 min respectivamente.

Very good to everyone! The only one that could not be missing when talking about Metallica! I dedicated these last days to learning some solos that made more than one vibrate, it is about the solos of the song "Sad but true" from the Black Album, Metallica's fifth album that was released in 1991.

Despite the fact that this album has very good songs that hit a lot, I have always thought that for the band this was the main theme of the album, for the following reason: In the band's second, third and fourth albums, the second theme was always the most representative of the album and they always had the same name, "Ride the Lightning", "Master of puppets" and "And justice for all", all characterized by be themes of high complexity and above all very long reaching 6:36 min, 8:38 min and 9:47 min respectively.

Incluso en su primer álbum denominado "Kill them all" lanzado en 1983, el segundo tema titulado "The four horsemen" tiene características similares, siendo este un tema muy largo también con una duración de 7:13 min siendo este el más largo del disco.

Parecía haber la tendencia a colocar como segundo tema el que fuera para ellos el más representativo del álbum, al menos es lo que me pareció siempre.

Tengo una anécdota sobre este tema y es que cuando era adolescente y comenzaba a sonar en mi ciudad las canciones de este disco yo conocí a un amigo que tenía este álbum en acetato y yo le pedí por favor me grabará ese álbum en un cassette y así fué.

Escuche muchísimo esos temas en ese entonces pero luego ocurrió algo!
Con el pasar del tiempo escucho un tema en alguna parte, se trataba de "Sad but true" nunca lo había escuchado así que pregunte a qué album pertenecía esa cancion y me respondieron en el Black Album!

Pero como era esto posible si yo tenía álbum completo grabado en un cassette y esa canción no aparecía!

With the passing of time I hear a song somewhere, it was "Sad but true" I had never heard it before so I asked what album that song belonged to and they answered me in the Black Album! But how was this possible if I had the entire album recorded on a cassette and that song didn't appear!

Entonces le pregunto a mi amigo que me había grabado el álbum y para sorpresa mía me responde que el no me grabó ese tema porque ese tema estaba "rayado" y fue imposible grabarlo y simplemente lo descarto además olvidó decirme respecto de ese detalle, de manera que está canción en particular se convirtió para mi como el santo grial.

El tema tiene 2 solos muy energicos en dónde Kirk Hammett, guitarra líder, utiliza la escala pentatonica de Em y la escala natural de Em.
También tiene muchas frases a doble cuerda creando armonías en quinta, algo así como un "double stops" como lo suelen llamar algunos guitarristas.

So I ask my friend who had recorded the album for me and to my surprise he replies that he didn't record that song for me because that song was "scratched" and it was impossible to record it and he simply discarded it, also he forgot to tell me about that detail, so that this particular song became like the holy grail for me.

The theme has 2 very energetic solos where Kirk Hammett, lead guitar, uses the pentatonic scale of Em and the natural scale of Em.
It also has many double string phrases creating harmonies in fifth, something like a "double stops" as some guitarists call it.

Honestamente está forma de tocar no es lo mío, es cierto que me encanta como se escucha pero no es algo que intento hacer casi nunca, es una cuestión de estilos.

Este solo me costó un poco por ese tipo de frases que además requiere cierta fuerza en los dedos afortunadamente este tema fue grabado con una afinación en "D", un tono más bajo del standard y decidí optar por está afinación porque me permitia hacer este tipo de frases con menos fuerza.

Honestly, this way of playing isn't my thing, it's true that I love the way it sounds but it's not something I almost never try to do, it's a matter of style.

This one only cost me a bit because of those types of phrases that also require some strength in the fingers. Fortunately, this song was recorded with a tuning in "D", a tone lower than the standard and I decided to opt for this tuning because it allowed me to do this type of sentences with less force.
