Home Brew: Keep it Simple

This weekend I was Home Brewing again. I decided to keep it very simple and see how things turn out. I only used two types of grain and one type of hops:

• 5kg Pilsen Malt
• 500g Vienna Malt
• 2 x 22g Cascade Hops
• 1 packet Mangrove Jack's M31 Yeast

Below is my equipment, the plastic bucket is my fermenting bucket, and the urn I use for heating and boiling.

The two types of grain is mixed and put into a grain bag for steeping.

I used 2 x 22g of Cascade hops, the first 22g I added in the beginning of the boil (Cascade hops is actually not a bittering hops, and is normally just added at the end of the boil for flavouring) I added the 2 x 22g at 10 minutes before the end of the boil. (In the video I say at 15 minutes before the end, but I changed my mind after I recorded) The longer the hops is in the boil, the more of the flavouring oils are lost.

The hops are just put in a little bag, to hang in the boiling wart.

I hope this beer will come out good. I have found that by keeping things simple, you often get the best results and it is also then easier to repeat!!
