As some of you might remember, I recently bought myself a 1961 VW Beetle, which is a project.
Before starting it for the first time, I needed to clean the fuel supply system as the car stood for a few years. The photo above is of the inside of the fuel tank. It had a lot of rust and dirt inside it. I removed the fuel tank, and had the tank cleaned out and relined, before fitting it again.
This car originally did not have a fuel gauge and had a aftermarket fuel gauge, which is period correct, fitted. This gauge works with a float, which has a cable connected to the gauge inside the car. The mechanism was also frozen solid, with rust and dirt. I also cleaned this up before fitting the fuel tank back in place.
I also cleaned the fuel lines, before connecting everything again.
Before starting the car, I also drained the oil and replaced the oil with clean oil.
The video shows the engine running, and I must say the engine sounds great!!
I still have not taken the car for its first test drive, as the brakes are also not in a working condition, I am currently working on them.
The plan is to test drive the car, to assess the condition, before stripping the entire car before I start the restoration process.
I hope you enjoyed the post and that you have a wonderful day.
